The Master Gunnery Sergeant Carroll F. Hersey Memorial Ski Jump has
many facets. It is a fitting tribute to a dedicated career Marine, built on land
of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carroll F. Hersey. For many years the Hersey
family donated the use of this land which is now leased by the Town of
Wolfeboro through the Parks and Playgrounds Commission. The Jrr-p
project was undertaken through an agreement between the Selectmen of
Wolfeboro, Parks and Playgrounds Commissioners, and Carroll Hersey.
The Ski J.r-p is a symbol of cooperation and the willingness to work.
More than one hundred people contributed many hours of hard labor to
initial planning, tree removal, cutting up trees, hauling and piling wood,
hand grading, hand regrading, hauling and spreadine hay, and numerous
other projects.
The Ski Jn-p is a symbol of generosity. Many organi4ations, businesses,
and individuals made important contributions to give the project its starting
impetus.
The Ski Jrr-p is a symbol of willingness of communities to help youth
develop activities to build constructive incentives. The J.t-p stands as an
invitation for youth to conquer it, to excel in learning the techniques to
become the winning jumper, to hold the hill record. The boys are excited as
each day someone jumps "a little farther".

Thus the Jr-p is a memorial, a symbol of cooperation, hard work,
generosity, a challenge to youth, but perhaps above and beyond all this it is
a symbol of faith in the future and an investment in ski competition for
youth.
