July 1996 – June 2001 General Manager(VP for Norco Refining Co) – Technical Services – Norco Responsibility for all Engineering and SH&E functions for the newly formed Norco Refining Company. Also during the transition planning, prior to the Merger with Texaco/STAR, assigned to the Supply Chain Management team in Houston for 50% of the time working with all the business functions to draft the goals and plans for SCM synergies resulting in $500MM in identified savings. Major Norco accomplishments include, moving refinery from 4 th quartile non-energy variable cost performance to “best 3” in our EDC size group, through increased local focus and vendor contract/interaction negotiations, significant technical assurance progress in the areas Protective Instrument Systems(PIS), receiving “best in class” rating, Pressure Equipment Integrity(PEI ) adit (2 nd best Shell), Safeguarding Studies/mitigations, rebuilding of eroded local skill pool(both business and technical), and completion of new generation Systems Management/Custody Transfer/Oil Movement System. Active participant / leader in corporate Refining Technology Leadership Team(RTLT), and the Alliance Consistent Practices Team. March 1992 – June 1996 Manager – Process Control – Westhollow Technology Center After numerous consolidations, responsibilities included advanced control applications and research, process analyzer applications and research and instrumentation for US along with Engineering Directorate interface to most Chemical business Operations/Technical Teams. Significant accomplishments include, Process Control Technology Package developed and utilized world-wide, major harmonization activities with Royal Dutch - Amsterdam, leading to SMOC/QDMC consolidation, outsourcing and sales of numerous technologies, consolidation of research activities, initialization of the RADDICAL suite of desktop applications as well as the first WTC commercialization efforts. July 1982-February 1992 – Norco Manufacturing Complex Computer Control Engineer (1 yr) Initially started learning new technology in Utilities area. Accomplishments include development of stochastic boiler optimization, advanced pressure control of complex fuel system, electrical system optimization and computer control/monitoring of utility systems. Supervisor - Computer Control – Oil Products, Logistics and Specialty Chemicals Responsible for Computer Control activities in all refining units, Utilities, Hydrocarbon Systems/Logistics, Lab, and West Site Chemicals. Accomplishments include justification of numerous re-instrumentation and computer control/optimization projects, including all fuels units(except Alkylation) and first Hydrocarbon Logistics, System Management and Custody Transfer computer system. Manager – Computer Control – Norco Manufacturing Complex Additional responsibilities for the Olefin Facilities. Completed implementation of all above mentioned projects as well as Olefin On-line optimizations, first in-line gasoline blending exemption for the EPA(direct to pipelines and ships) and completion of Complex-wide real-time material balancing/accounting system along with significant integration of Planning tools/optimizers with the on-line unit optimizers. Significant activities in reconciliation and real time model updates. Also led significant system rebuilds after devastating CCU explosion May 1988. (Decision was made to not restart facility until all real time computer systems were available) Superintendent – Control Systems Engineering Led consolidation of Computer Control and Instrumentation Departments. Responsibilities included all automation activities with significant vendor contract renewals, retraining of staff to new Control System Engineer classification(combination of Advanced Control and Instrumentation) and new Maintenance Craft hiring/training. Sept 1973-June 1982 Shell Agricultural Chemicals(Mobile, Denver and Houston) Instrument, Process and Environmental Engineer Numerous unit support and project assignments including relocation and start-up of Denver units to Mobile, incinerator and biotreater designs, animal health and consumer products production and environmental permits. Also worked with team to negotiate sale of Technology to Soviet Union. Location Representative PYDRIN® Insecticide Facility Numerous assignments including process research, pilot plant design/operation/scale-up for final design, coordination of design operability reviews and license negotiation with Sumitomo Chemicals. Operations Manager – Mobile BLADEX® Facility Initially responsible for operation of raw materials(coordination of toll conversion agreements with Degussa Chemical),reaction, solvent recovery and effluent treating sections. After start-up also assumed responsibility for Product crystalization, recovery, solids handling, packaging and shipping. Pinkerton Security Services(1969-1972) Security guard at numerous facilities and co-employed at several research facilities monitoring experiments during off-hours. Developed initial remote monitoring system for laboratory use.
