Embroidery 

Embroidery is one of the first enhancements most customers look at when considering decoration of VF Imagewear apparel. A logo announces 

to the world who you represent and a strong first impression can make a big difference in business. Imagine It can handle all aspects of your 

embroidery needs. We offer a wide selection of thread colors constructed of either 100% polyester (our default thread choice) or 100% rayon, which 

is available upon request through your Customer Service Representative or the embroidery department. Both selections ensure color vibrancy as well 

as colorfastness, though we do not recommend rayon thread for industrial laundered product. Read on to see some of the options available within 

the world of embroidery.

How to Request a Custom Logo 

• Contact Customer Service for additional information on 

submitting new logo image artwork. 

• Formats - Acceptable formats for artwork of logo include: 

.TIF, .BMP, .JPG, .EPS, or submit previously digitized file 

(tajima format preferred). 

• Color / Thread Limitations - Custom logos are limited to 9 colors.

• Size - A typical left or right chest location is about 2 ½" x 3½". 

Small detail in a logo design may require resizing or an adjustment 

so that detail can be seen. See following pages for size guidelines 

on garments and locations. 

• Digitizing Fees - 1 to 8,000 stitches - $95.00*. 8,001 stitches 

and up - $125.00* 

• Color Changes - There is a $25.00* fee for changing colors to an 

existing logo if a new logo number is required. 

• Revisions - Charges for revisions are determined based upon 

complexity. There may be up to a $50.00* fee for customer 

requested revisions. 

• Timeline -Please allow up to 3 days to receive a sew-off of custom 

logos. Logos in excess of 20,000 stitches may require longer.

Using the Online Interface 

When creating images online, you have the ability to upload your own image so it can be used in creating your customized garment. After 

completing your customization online, the above process is still required to digitize your image for embroidery. The online interface will 

prompt you to complete this process. 

We are happy to work with you to have your logos loaded into our system under your customer account number. This will allow your logos 

to populate within the Imagine It interface screen to be utilized for online customization. Ask your VF Customer Service Representative for 

more information.

For Industrial Processing - VF Imagewear uses colorfast 

embroidery threads for all embroidery applications. These 

threads are also accepted by the industrial laundry industry. 

Using good laundry practices, as outlined in the “Red Kap Guide 

to Laundry Processing,” will produce acceptable results with 

industrial processed garments. Because end use and processing 

requirements will vary, laundering a sample is recommended to 

determine the specific guidelines that work best in your situation.

POLO BACK 

• Placement and size can differ based on the garment they will be sewn on. These pages show 

placements and size guidelines for various garment types. 

• Embroidering on a garment with textures, prints or patterns can often make part of a logo 

difficult to see. Ask for a sew-off prior to placing orders to be certain that all words are legible 

and colors are visible. 

• To determine the best size and placement for embroidery, photocopy the logo to the desired 

size, cut it out and place it on the garment in various locations until the best size and location 

is determined. 

• If grommets, eyelets or badges will be going on the same side of a garment as embroidery, 

be sure to leave the appropriate space for the badge when specifying embroidery location.

Custom Placket Embroideries 

All placket embroideries are available in the colors shown below each design. 

Examples of most color versions are shown at least once and are highlighted 

in gold below the designs. 

Re-color - If you would like to re-color an existing placket embroidery design, 

access the Embroidery Request form (click on Custom Logo) via the Imagine 

It online interface and fill out the appropriate sections. A re-color requires you 

to utilize the existing number of colors in a design and that you maintain the 

same locations. If the design is red, blue and green, you can change 

everything that is currently red to any new color, anything blue to any new 

color, etc. If a design element is currently two colors, you cannot change it 

to four. This would constitute a new design, not a re-color. 

Changing a design from multicolors to one color would be considered 

a re-color. 

Fee - The charge for a re-color is $25.00. The new version will be assigned 

a new code and it will become your exclusive design. 

A Re-design can also be done to a placket embroidery. The process would 

follow that of above. Color options would be open to your choice. Fee would be 

the same as a digitizing fee, and would be based on the stitch count of 

the embroidery. See guidelines on page 7.

Direct Embroidery 

Four fonts are offered for direct embroidery, with several sizes in each (3/8"- 1"). Embroider text directly on a garment, 

an emblem, or on a name strip. This option is most often used for names, titles, accredits, etc. and can be done easily 

without the need for digitization. 

• Multiple lines of type, in the same or different sizes, can easily be added to a garment. To add more than one line, 

please contact a Customer Service Representative at 1.800.733.5271 to order this option. 

• Please specify if all CAPS are required. Using all caps will reduce the number of characters per line. The characters
