Embroidery is one of the first enhancements most customers look at when considering decoration of VF Imagewear apparel. A logo 

announces to the world who you represent and a strong first impression can make a big difference in business. Imagine It can handle all 

aspects of your embroidery needs. We can create a logo from scratch or digitize and re-work an existing image. We offer a wide selection 

of thread colors constructed from a 60% Poly / 40% Cotton blend that insures vibrancy as well as colorfastness. Read on to see some of 

the options available within the world of embroidery…

How to Request a Custom Logo 

• Go on-line - Visit www.vfimagewear.com and click on CUSTOM LOGO 

to submit your logo image / artwork. 

• Formats - Acceptable formats for artwork of logo include: .TIF, .BMP, 

.JPG, .EPS, or submit previously digitized file (tajima format preferred). 

• Color / Thread Limitations - Custom logos are limited to 9 colors. 

• Size - A typical left or right chest location is about 2 ½" x 3½". 

Small detail in a logo design may require resizing or an adjustment so 

that detail can be seen. See following pages for size guidelines on 

garments and locations. 

• Digitizing Fees - 1 - 8,000 stitches - $95.00*. 8,001 stitches 

and up - $125.00* 

• Color Changes - There is a $25.00* fee for changing colors to an 

existing logo if a new logo number is required. 

• Revisions - Charges for revisions are determined based upon complexity. 

There may be up to a $50.00* fee for customer requested revisions.

When creating images on-line, you have the ability to upload your own image so it can be used in creating your customized garment. After 

completing your customization on-line, the above process is still required to digitize your image for embroidery. The on-line interface 

will prompt you to complete this process. 

We are happy to work with you to have your logos loaded into our system under your customer account number. This will allow your 

logos to populate within the Imagine It interface screen to be utilized for on-line customization. Ask your VF Customer Service

For Industrial Processing - VF Imagewear 

uses colorfast poly/cotton embroidery threads for all 

embroidery applications. These threads are also accepted 

by the industrial laundry industry. Using good laundry 

practices, as outlined in the “Red Kap Guide to Laundry 

Processing,” will produce acceptable results with 

industrial processed garments. Because end use and 

processing requirements will vary, laundering a sample 

is recommended to determine the specific guidelines 

that work best in your situation.

• Placement and size can differ based on the garment they will be sewn on. These pages show 

placements and size guidelines for various garment types. 

• Embroidering on a garment with textures, prints or patterns can often make part of a logo 

difficult to see. Ask for a sew-off prior to placing orders to be certain that all words are legible 

and colors are visible. 

• To determine the best size and placement for embroidery, photo copy the logo to the desired 

size, cut it out and place it on the garment in various locations until the best size and location 

is determined. 

• If grommets, eyelets or badges will be going on the same side of a garment as embroidery, 

be sure to leave the appropriate space for the badge when specifying embroidery location.

Re-color - If you would like to re-color an existing placket 

embroidery design, access the Embroidery Request form (click on

appropriate sections. A re-color requires you to utilize the existing 

number of colors in a design and that you maintain the same 

locations. If the design is red, blue and green, you can change

Changing a design from multicolors to one color would also be

Fee - The charge for a re-color is $25.00. The new version will be 

assigned a new code and it will become your exclusive design. 

A Re-design can also be done to a placket embroidery. The process 

would follow that of above. Color options would be open to your choice. 

Fee would be the same as a digitizing fee, and would be based on the

Four fonts are offered for direct embroidery with several sizes in each (3/8"- 1"). Embroider 

text either directly on a garment or to an emblem. This option is most often used for names,

Epaulettes, pocket flaps and pockets can quickly turn a generic garment into one that speaks directly to a specific job function. Epaulettes imply 

authority and work well to identify security personnel, while a patch pocket added to a work pant can be essential to a route driver who requires the 

perfect place for his order book. Often, a chef will want a thermometer pocket on both sleeves. While that will rarely be found in a stock offering,

Reflective Striping 

Enhanced visibility can be critical when working in high traffic areas, on construction 

sites or around equipment operation. Adding reflective striping to your uniform 

can make a life saving difference. Select from the many trim widths, colors and 

placements to make your enhancements have the highest impact. These distinctive 

stripings can be added to most Red Kap or Bulwark garments. Flame resistant 

striping is also available. The garments and striping you select should depend 

on the end use requirements. 

The following front and back images on pgs. 22-25 indicate all single reflective 

stripe locations for most products. With a few exceptions, stripes shown above the 

waist can be applied to a shirt, jacket or coverall. Stripes shown below the waist can 

apply to a pant, short, or coverall. The specific details of a garment, like the size of a 

pocket, the placement of closures, an emblem or an additional pocket, may dictate 

a slight change in the placement from what is shown in these images. 

• Striping applied post-manufacturing will always go 

around a pocket or emblem. Pockets cannot be 

removed for relective trim application.

Buttons

Looking for better closure? You’re bound to get it when choosing from our distinctive 

collection of buttons. Add a touch of class to any uniform by exchanging existing 

buttons for upgraded metallic options in different finishes. Add color and zing to 

a chef’s coat by replacing white buttons with color versions. Finally, consider 

adding closures to open front cardigan styled jackets. A single upgrade like this 

will go a long way toward achieving a look that will make your employees proud 

to be in uniform. 

Frog Closure 

As shown in the images here, consider customizing your garment by changing out 

some of the buttons where possible. This works well on the 4Y34 (shown on pg. 36), 

which has only one button. Another great option is to upgrade buttons to gold or 

silver on the pocket flaps and epaulettes of security shirts, allowing the front buttons 

to remain white. A frog closure, shown on the ivory shirt above right, creates a novelty 

look that can also lend an Asian flair. This item can either be decorative, as above, 

or functional when added to a cardigan jacket front, (as the one on the left) with

Options for industrial 

wash garments 

Most of the trims shown in this section are not 

Industrial Laundry (IL) friendly, however a few 

items can be successfully used to customize IL 

garments. In the adjacent trim guide, there are 

8 colors of bias trim that have been made from 

our work shirt poplin, as in SP14 / 24. These 

trims have the same laundry durability as the 

shirts, and can be used on most of the Red Kap 

shirts. View any of the images on these pages for 

placement ideas. 

Knit trim is another option for industrial 

garments and is primarily used on culinary 

and service apparel items. Available in primary 

colors, it can easily upgrade the look of your 

chef coat when applied to the collar or cuffs.

The non-metallic middy braids will stand up 

to light soil processing. With these trims, it is 

always best to do your own testing in the actual

Beginning with a corporate color story, build your program by selecting 

from our distinctive collection of solid and patterned fabric overlays. One 

or two selections used strategically over several items can pull together 

the look you want, one employee at a time. An entire group of employees 

can go from plain to perfection in minutes; customization is just a 

click away. 

Here at VF Imagewear, we’ve done our homework to determine 

which fabrics can be safely applied to others, to ensure against 

color bleed, crocking or differential shrinkage. Be aware that trim 

options and overlays may change as you decorate different base 

garments. Please use our Imagine It on-line interface at

selections that will perform. 

Add a Collar (available Summer 2009) 

On our Linden Grey vest, (style 4Y48BK) or the matching 

jacket (4Y14BK) the collarless silhouettes are ready to 

accomodate a variety of collar patterns and colors to 

match the job at hand. A shawl styled collar of your 

fabric choice can be permanently attached to these 

items through Imagine It to offer an individualized 

look. Select from the many options of solid failles 

or jacquard vest patterns, shown as bias trims in the 

accompanying trim section of this catalog, or on
