Press Release – 5 th Annual Wounded Warrior Horsemanship Event Draws Biggest Crowd Yet for a
Day Focused on Riding, Horse Demonstrations, and Building Resilient Army Families
Fort Benning, GA, October 6, 2012 — More than 930 participants and volunteers turned out Saturday,
October 6, 2012, for the 5 th Annual Wounded Warrior Horsemanship Program at Fort Benning’s Wetherby
Field. Participants received riding instructions and witnessed demonstrations in grooming techniques,
saddle and tack procedures, and use of proper terminology. Meals, entertainment, and door prizes were
also provided throughout the day. This free event was organized by Warrior Outreach, Inc., a non-profit
organization providing opportunities for all Soldiers, Veterans, and their Families to interact with horses
while achieving long-term individual and family success.
“WOW! It was another great year of turnout and support from the Fort Benning and surrounding
community,” explains Samuel M. Rhodes, Sr., President/CEO Warrior Outreach, Inc. “Generous
contributions from PARIO, INC., RJ Rope Company, OT Training Solutions, and many other businesses
made this event possible again for the 10 th time in five years.”
The Color Team from Griffin 4-H did a remarkable job led by Donna Shellnut and a host of Volunteers
with nine horses. Begin Again Farm located on Harris Road in Midland, Georgia provided the dynamic
opportunity for Pony Rides for kids who weighed less than 60 pounds. All in all, this program continued to
reach out and touch so many lives as over 930 great Warriors, Family members, and Veterans from the
surrounding community attended and participated in the day’s activities.
“One of the best moments of the event for me personally was when we
recognized Mr. William Young for his ongoing family support since 2008 in
memory of Chasidee Katelyn Crabtree who died at the age of 16 in June
2012,” says Mr. Rhodes. “She is survived by her parents Troy and Kathy
Crabtree who have supported this program unconditionally for three
years. The next event is already scheduled for April 6, 2013, and we look
forward to having even more volunteers and sponsors join us to honor our
Soldiers, Veterans, and their Families. We hope to see you there too.”
