Bullose: bulb-shaped or bulging surface.<br />
Diversity: variety, <strong>of</strong>ten expressed as a function <strong>of</strong> a number <strong>of</strong> species in<br />
a sample.<br />
Epiphyte: plants growing on <strong>the</strong> surface <strong>of</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r plants.<br />
Internodes: <strong>the</strong> part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> rhizome between two nodes.<br />
Leaf scars: <strong>the</strong> marks remaining on <strong>the</strong> rhizome or stem <strong>of</strong> a plant after a<br />
leaf has died.<br />
Leaf sheath: <strong>the</strong> protective cover for <strong>the</strong> young leaves, it encloses <strong>the</strong><br />
growing tip <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> rhizome.<br />
Leaf scale: a modified leaf, <strong>of</strong>ten small and membranous.<br />
Leeward: side protected from <strong>the</strong> wind.<br />
Nodes: <strong>the</strong> point on a plant rhizome from which <strong>the</strong> leaves and lateral<br />
shoots grow.<br />
<strong>Sea</strong>grass meadow: a large expanse <strong>of</strong> seagrass plants.<br />
Sediment: matter that settles <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> bot<strong>to</strong>m <strong>of</strong> a water body.<br />
Subtidal: beneath <strong>the</strong> low watermark.<br />
Vein: <strong>the</strong> clearly defined vascular bundle in a leaf, usually seen as slightly<br />
darker lines forming <strong>the</strong> framework <strong>of</strong> a leaf.<br />
Windward: side exposed <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> wind.<br />
