Letter from Sandi
I am pleased to present to you this year’s Spring Fling, “Proud
To Be An American Celebrating the American Flag” in honor
of our founding ideals and those of our ancestors who died
in their defense as well as the many men and women currently
serving to protect and defend our country and our
flag of the United States of America.
Through our patriotic activities, our Chapter is the national
recipient of many achievement awards for our service to
veterans. On the local level, we donate to Veterans Services
at the VA hospital in Sepulveda, the Ventura Veteran’s
Home, the Ventura County Stand Down and other programs
supporting our active duty personnel. Our educational
sponsorships include the American History Essay Contests,
Christopher Columbus Essay Contests and the DAR Good
Citizens Essay Contests, award contests at the middle school
and high school levels. Additionally, we sponsor a ROTC
Medals program at the high school and college level. Also,
donations are made to the State and National DAR funded
and sponsored schools. Your support of the Spring Fling will
ensure that we are able to continue these many invaluable
patriotic and educational activities.
Thank you to my Spring Fling committee. Your hours of hard
work, giving up all of your Saturdays for months on end and
your endless planning pays off each year to achieve our
largest fundraiser of the year. It would not be possible without
you!!
I appreciate you all for coming today! I hope you enjoy this
special event and venue, soak up the sun and sea air, and
enjoy the most amazing views of the Pacific Ocean and our
Channel Islands.

Royce Lewellen met in 1975 through
the Santa Maria Wine & Food Society.
Louis was a well-respected grower
who had been supplying premium
wine grapes for reputable Napa and Sonoma wineries for decades. Royce
Lewellen was a passionate wine enthusiast with a vision for the future of the
Santa Barbara County wine industry. Over the next twenty-five years, the
Lucas and Lewellen families would grow in a deep friendship that would
serve as the foundation for Lucas & Lewellen Vineyards, a Solvang, California
based winery with four hundred estate acres situated among three of
Santa Barbara County’s separate and distinct climate zones, three major
