Solo Joe
Calgary, AB – Burnt Thicket
Theatre presents their latest
work: Solo Joe, touring
Western Canada October
24– Dec 1. Solo Joe explores
the nature of dreams realized,
forgotten or failed and
Church in
Damascus: 40
percent has fled
Charisma News – Pastor Edward
from Damascus paints a
sad picture of the situation in
the Syrian capital. “The situation
is very grim,” he said.
“There is deep sadness and
much stress and anxiety.”
According to the pastor, approximately
40 percent of the
members of his church have
left the country since the civil
war in Syria started 2½ years
ago. Imagine if four of every
10 members of your church
left in such a short period – a
major loss for every congregation.
Pastor Edward knows
that in his church, some members
still are waiting for the
opportunity to leave Syria.
“They are still trying to find a
place to go,” he said. He also
mentioned a brighter side,
“Church people are closer to
the Lord and to each other.”
No room for origins-of-universe
discussion at
university
(OneNewsNow) – Discovery
Institute Vice President John
West says he is upset that Ball
State University has banned
faculty from discussing intelligent
design while permitting
a class that uses a religionbashing
textbook. The textbook
contains “chapter after
chapter bashing religion,
bashing intelligent design,”
West told OneNewsNow. “In
fact, one of the chapter titles
is ‘Science must destroy
religion.’ And that’s pretty
much what the book is about.”
The booked called What is
Your Dangerous Idea? is a
compilation of essays edited
www.calgarychristian.com
by literary agent John Brockman,
an atheist. The theory
of intelligent design argues
that earth and the universe,
due to their precise nature,
could not have been created
by pure chance. The theory
is criticized by scientists
for its religious tone since it
mirrors the Genesis account
of creation. The school is
targeting Eric Hedin, an assistant
professor of physics,
who taught intelligent design
in an honours class called
Miracle survivor
sang to God
while submerged
in car
Broomfield, CO – As major
flooding began in Colorado,
the car Roy Ortiz was driving
was swept off a road, along
with two other vehicles. He
was trapped in his submerged
car for two hours before being
rescued. How did he survive
the deadly situation? By the
grace of God. As reported in
the Broomfield Enterprise, the
following day Ortiz described
his harrowing ordeal, saying
he had to position his head
in a small air bubble near the
back of his car in order to
breath. “Everywhere I moved,”
he recalled, “there was water.
Two hours was an eternity.”
Naturally, Ortiz was frightened,
but he “prayed and sang
to God” and trusted that the
911 call he was able to make
before the car was completely
See the Bible in
“Visual Form”
(BCN) – The Guardian recently
assembled a series of photos,
which used technology to
“visualize” what a Bible looks
like. For example, in a multicoloured
arc diagram, artist
Chris Harrison and Christoph
Römhild, a Lutheran pastor,
teamed up to create a bar
graph that represents all the
chapters in the Bible, with
books alternating in colour
between white and light gray,
and the length of each bar
denoting the number of verses
in each chapter. The result is
a stunning light display in the
shape of a multi-coloured
dome. Another, called “The
Gospel Spectrum,” explores
the life of Jesus with computational
media, including
verses from the Gospels that
depict major events in His life.
The colours of the graph correspond
to each book, giving
the final picture the look of
colourful, dripping icicles.
Father wears
short shorts to
teach modesty
Charisma News – In an effort
to teach his college-aged
daughter modesty, Scott
Mackintosh decided to wear
short shorts to illustrate how
inappropriate they can look.
The photos have since gone
viral. The father of seven
children, four of which are
girls, said, “I’m a firm believer
that the way we dress sends
messages about us, and it
influences the way we and
others act.” Mackintosh had
chided his second youngest
daughter about her clothing
choices to no avail, and earlier
this month he thought it was
time for drastic measures. He
created his own version of
Daisy Dukes and wore them
during the family’s night out.
He was met with laughter
and stares as he entered a
restaurant at a small amusement
park. By the night’s end,
his daughter was thoroughly
embarrassed. But had she
learned her lesson? “I know
the world has varying degrees
of what is modest and what is
not when it comes to clothing,”
he said. “In our family we
have pretty definite modesty
guidelines: No mid-drift or
