CONFIRMATION
A new eason of confirmation has begun. Our 7 th and 8 th graders are
participating in worship in meaningful ways, serving as acolytes, ushers,
readers, Communion assistants and informed worshipers. They are also
serving as Sunday School and nursery helpers and serving the church
and the community in a variety of ways.
Thank you to last year’s dedicated parents who will serve again this year
as Parent Guides mentoring the 8 th graders in small groups sessions.
They are Nathan & Kelly Anderson, Kristi Anderson, Jenny Mushynski,
Chris Nelson and Jackie Nicklaus. Welcome to our new Parent Guide,
Lori Dura, who will work with the 7 th graders.
Our 9 th graders will be confirmed on October 28, Reformation Sunday,
at 2:00 p.m. A rehearsal for the Rite of Confirmation will be held on
Saturday, October 27 at 9:00 a.m.
Church Picnic Reflections . . .
What a wonderful day it was as we celebrated Rally Sunday on
September 9. Emmanuel members, friends and members to be
gathered for food, fellowship and fun on a warm, sunny afternoon in
beautiful Henes Park. The event featured great picnic food (thank you
to all who grilled the meat and those who brought dishes to pass),
music by the Sunroom String Band, horse drawn wagon rides and pony
rides offered by John Trombley and Pat Brukardt, balloon making by a
professional clown, bouncy house and games of all sorts, hair design,
fingernail painting and hand massages provided by Paul Mitchell School,
and more. Many words of thanks are deserved by our hardworking
Fellowship Committee members Jeanne & Pete Anderson and Dorothy
Jozwiak, Rosie & Dennis Draska and all who worked with them.
It was a great way to begin our fall season!
Here is the next fellowship event being planned . . .
OUR MINISTRY OF SERVICE
After several years of dedicated and dynamic leadership, Pat Mertens
has handed over chairmanship of the Service Committee to fellow
committee member Jeff Lenca. We commend Pat for her sensitivity to
the needs of others and her motivation of the committee members to
plan and carry out ministries that reach out, within our congregation
and beyond our congregation to the community and the world with
programs of social ministry. We also thank Jeff for his willingness to
assume leadership. Jeff also serves on our Church Council. All the
members of the committee have a real heart for helping and serving
others. They would like to increase the committee membership with
others who would be interested and willing to share in the good work
they do. Next month’s Messenger will list the seasonal ministries they
are planning.
The Service Committee will host the coffee reception on October 21 for
