PGA Coaching Summit

THE KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
Michael Hebron
Decades ago Michael Hebron played a key role in orchestrating
the first PGA Teaching and Coaching Summit, bringing together
instructors from across the country to share ideas on teaching methods
and philosophies. He became known as “the teacher’s teacher” and
through his dedication earned the distinction of being inducted as the
24th PGA of America Master Professional.
Whether teaching a junior clinic or working with a Tour Player,
Michael demonstrates a love and passion for the game of golf while always helping to identify
and promote the importance of the PGA Professional.
Michael’s resume is filled with accolades and accomplishments. In addition to winning the
PGA of America Horton Smith Award and the 1991 PGA Teacher of the Year Award, Michael
has received over twenty five other distinguished awards including the Sam Snead Award for
his contributions to the game, the PGA and his Metropolitan section. His legacy of service as
a teacher, educator, author, promoter, golf professional and course operator puts him among
the PGA of America’s elite.
Michael’s book, See and Feel the Inside Move the Outside, was the first golf instruction book
accepted as a PGA Master’s thesis. Since then, he has written hundreds of articles for leading
golf magazines, authored a number of books and DVDs and featured on both free-to-air and
cable television shows.
In recent times, Michael has taken many hours of classes at Harvard’s Graduate School of
Education and has subsequently been researching the brain’s connection to learning. His
Neuro Learning for Golf principles advocate that in order to enhance performance potential,
you must first improve an individual’s learning potential. The environment that this approach
creates is a ‘learning-developing’ environment, as opposed to the traditional ‘teaching & fixing
to get-it-right’ approach.
2012 ASIA
A Message from the 2010 Teacher of the Year
The Srixon PGA Coaching Summit is an integral part of the PGA’s continuing education structure
and continues to be the largest event for golf professionals in the Asia Pacific region. The 2012
Summit will provide a variety of topics with a great mix of presenters from both here and abroad.
From a keynote perspective we welcome PGA of America Master Professional and Top-30
Instructor, Michael Hebron; prominent Australian PGA Member and Head of the Titleist
Performance Institute Junior Advisory Board, Denis McDade; UK Coaching Hall of Fame
Inductee and MBE recipient, Dr. Dave Alred; Australian Men’s Hockey Coach and High
Performance Consultant, Dr. Ric Charlesworth; PGA Master Professional and Director of
Education at the PGAs of Europe, Tony Bennett; and PGA of America Professional and Vice-
President of Sales and Business Development at TrackMan, Matt Frelich.
A range of local supporting presenters will also inspire you to think beyond your traditional
sources of influence and reinvigorate your approach to teaching and coaching. I encourage
you to join your peers and colleagues from around the country,
and to share your thoughts and experiences in order to generate
tangible outcomes that can be applied within your own business.
The RACV Royal Pines Resort will again be providing fantastic
hospitality and on behalf of the PGA, we look forward to seeing
you in September.
PGA Member and 2010 PGA Teacher of the Year

Dr. Dave Alred MBE
Dr. Dave Alred is a specialist coach in performing under pressure.
Having completed his PhD at Loughborough University, Alred has
worked with a variety of sports at the elite level. He has worked with the
Middlesborough, Sunderland, and Aston Villa Football Clubs as well as
the English Cricket and Polo Teams. In Australia he has worked across
numerous football codes with St George, Newcastle, Parramatta, Manly,
the Wallabies and West Coast Eagles all featuring on his client list.
Dave Alred was inaugurated into the UK Coaching Hall of Fame for his contribution to the
success of England’s Rugby World Cup win, and was awarded the Mussabini Medal for
outstanding success on the world stage. In 2004 he was honored with an MBE and is widely
regarded as the world’s best kicking coach with over 130 tests and 4 world cups under his belt
as an English and British Lions Assistant Coach.
As well as his work with teams, Alred concentrates a great deal of time on individual
performances believing that it is often one’s mindset that is fundamental to success.
By trying to ensure players always perform at, or very near their potential, Alred is continually
searching for ways to get a player to go where they’ve never been before in terms of both their
performance and mindset. He has helped both athletes and coaches develop an understanding of a
“No Limits” mindset and looks at how performance behaviour changes when in pressure situations.
In addition to being renowned for his work with star pupil Jonny Wilkinson, Alred has been
heralded for his work with Luke Donald, seeing him rise from number 32 to number 1 in
the world. Having taught himself to play golf, Alred now plays off four and enjoys working
with individuals to better their game. He has recently started working with three-time major
winner, Ireland’s Padraig Harrington.
Denis McDade
As Head of the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Junior Advisory Board, Denis has dedicated
himself for several years to researching and improving the way in which junior golf programs are
structured and delivered and will share elements of this as part of the Summit Program this year.
Denis spends many weeks each year travelling around the world working with his players
and presenting at certification seminars on behalf of TPI. He has previously been nominated
as a PGA Teacher of the Year and continues to be considered as one of Australia’s foremost
teachers and coaches.
Whether leading the world in hockey, captaining Western Australia in
cricket, cramming in a medical degree or winning a seat in Federal
and a fierce appetite for victory have guaranteed his success.
A former captain of the Western Australian and Australian Hockey
5 Olympic and 4 World Cup tournaments. He was a gold medallist and
year from 1996 to 2000) and was awarded the status of Master Coach by the International Hockey
PACIFIC SRIXON PGA

Federation, subsequently confirming his position as one of the world’s leading coaches.
In addition to his commitment to hockey, Charlesworth also worked as a high performance
consultant to the Fremantle Dockers and as a mentor coach to 5 Australian Institute
of Sport coaches. He moved to New Zealand in October 2005 to assume a role as High
Performance Manager for New Zealand Cricket and in late 2007 he was drawn back into
hockey as Indian Hockey’s Technical Advisor.
In 2008, Ric was appointed coach of the Australian’s National Men’s Hockey team and in the
same year was inducted into Hockey Australia’s inaugural Hall of Fame. In 2009 he coached
the Kookaburra’s to gold at the Champion’s Trophy in Melbourne and this was followed by
gold at the 2010 World Cup in New Delhi and gold at the Commonwealth Games. He is the
