Member Benefits
Dear colleagues,
On the following pages you will find details of the 2013/14 CISI member
benefits package that can enhance the professional development of your
employees and, as well, provide you with a reminder of how they, and you,
can keep track of their activities by using our CPD scheme.
The importance of continuing professional development (CPD) within
the financial services industry continues to grow in significance, especially for Chartered members
(Chartered FCSI and Chartered MCSI), Chartered Wealth Managers and those members affected by the
RDR. The majority of the professional benefits we offer are free or heavily discounted for members.
Technology will continue to be critical. We want to ensure members can ‘learn on the go’ as well as attend a
wide variety of events, where attendance might also be by tuning into a live webstreamed event elsewhere.
We have recently upgraded our Professional Refresher online learning solution, resulting in a fresh
new look and improved system performance. Members can refresh their knowledge on over 40
industry topics, and by the end of 2013 we plan to have released another 12 modules covering
topical subjects including Dodd-Frank, the new UK Regulatory Environment and Collectives.
New developments and continued enhancements to CISI TV will also take effect throughout the year.
Our first initiative was the launch of Structured (Active) webcasts at the end of 2012. By completing
a five question quiz after viewing selected webcasts and achieving 80% or more, you can now earn
Structured (Active) learning CPD. Soon, you will start to see more variety in the content of videos
online. As well as filmed CPD events, we will also be showcasing speaker interviews, panels sessions,
tailored programmes on highly topical subjects and high level third party videos from many of our
partners including the London Stock Exchange.
Firms focused on furthering their commitment to the highest standards of professionalism and
integrity are invited to become Corporate Supporters of the CISI and join more than 100 firms,
within the UK and internationally, which have already chosen to do so. Clients, employees and the
market recognise that Corporate Supporters are leaders in quality, integrity and competence and are
committed to supporting success in CISI qualifications and fostering a culture of continuing learning
for employees.
Please make the most of the CISI! Most of our CPD activities and elearning opportunities are free
to members. As a firm, you can apply to access many of our services as a ‘superuser’ to monitor
employees’ CPD.
To find out more visit cisi.org/corporatesupporter, contact the Client Relationship
Management team on +44 20 7645 0817 or email corporatesupporter@cisi.org
The CISI and the RDR
The CISI is an Accredited Body under the RDR as awarded by the UK regulators. The Institute is
authorised to issue Statements of Professional Standing (SPS) to individual retail investment advisers
who are CISI members, or the staff of Corporate Supporters.
RDR affected advisers, who are now required to log a minimum of 35 hours CPD each year with a
minimum of 21 hours of Structured learning, can complete all aspects of their CPD by utilising the
CISI’s extensive range of professional membership benefits. All of the CPD hours they earn with the
CISI will be automatically logged to their personal CISI CPD record.
We have also endeavoured to map our professional benefits to fit with the exam standards, to
help you and your employees determine relevance, as suggested by the UK regulators. We have
developed a flexible plan which members can choose to follow to achieve their 35 hours annual RDR
CPD and this is available at cisi.org/rdrcpdwithcisi
Your employees may be eligible to apply for the CISI’s Chartered Wealth Manager designation
(especially up to March 2014 as new requirements will come into force for April 2014). Whilst not a
membership designation, it was launched by the CISI to recognise members in the retail sector at
the pinnacle of their profession and is obtained by meeting set criteria.
Find out more at cisi.org/charteredwm
Chartered Status
Membership of a Chartered body offers your employees the benefit of achieving personal Chartered
status. Individuals who become personally Chartered demonstrate to the financial services industry
that they have reached the pinnacle of their profession and publically affirms their commitment to
continuing learning, integrity and ethical practices.
Members who achieve personal Chartered status are entitled to use the prestigious Chartered MCSI
or Chartered FCSI designations. Encourage your employees to strive towards achieving Chartered
status and reach the highest level of CISI membership.
CPD Scheme
Assisting members to maintain ongoing competence is a core principle of the CISI. Our
formal CPD scheme, free to all members, is a cost-effective way for firms to prove to the regulator that
they are taking responsibility for the continuing competence and development of their employees.
The Institute recommends that members complete a minimum of 35 hours of CPD a year. To enable
members to keep a record of their hours, we automatically record any CISI CPD activities undertaken,
such as attending events, taking exams and using elearning tools in one centralised record where
additional non-CISI CPD hours undertaken can be added. Those who complete the recommended 35
hours will receive a formal certificate.
Maintaining annual CPD of 35 hours using the CISI CPD scheme is compulsory for all members
subject to CPD regulatory requirements, such as the Retail Distribution Review (RDR), also to
all personally Chartered members (Chartered FCSI and Chartered MCSI) and Chartered Wealth
Managers unless your inhouse scheme has been formally accredited by the CISI.
Firms can also take advantage of our scheme’s Superuser function.
Please also note that logging CPD helps your employees to upgrade their membership. For details
go to cisi.org/mindividcharter
Visit cisi.org/cpdscheme
“The CPD recording website and the
ability to earn CPD by completing
online courses with a test at the end
is an outstanding development. It
significantly reduces the pain involved
in maintaining CPD records and
offers a very constructive means of
achieving CPD through continuous
refresher training in an easy to use and
simple way.
CPD Scheme Superuser Function
We encourage all firms to take advantage of our Superuser function, part of the CISI CPD scheme.
This tool enables you to track and monitor the CPD activities of your staff. The individual CPD logs of
all CISI members at your firm can be viewed, reports can be generated and bespoke CPD entries can
be created and allocated to one or all of your employees’ CPD logs.
The system offers the following functions:
• Search – you can search for and view individual CPD logs, as well as search by CPD activities
completed. For example, using the activities search function, the system can be used to produce
a list of all staff who have completed the Anti-Money
Laundering module of Professional Refresher during
the year.
• Activity Templates – you can create a bespoke
CPD entry and then apply it to one, or all, of your
employees’ CPD logs, or you can create default
templates for staff to use from within their own
individual CPD logs.
• Excel Import/Export - CPD entries can be imported
via Excel and results exported, using the same
method.
• Email - the Superuser email function allows you to
email selected staff registered on the CPD log from
within the tool. Emails that are sent come from the
registered Superuser’s email address, other emails addresses can be CC’d or BCC’d into the emails
sent and personlised bulk emails can be distributed.
To find out more, please email cpdscheme@cisi.org
Accreditation of your Firm’s CPD Scheme
The CISI CPD log is an advantageous tool for a firm seeking to implement a continuing professional
development policy. Users of the CISI CPD log need to demonstrate compliance to either the CISI or
RDR CPD requirements, and employees’ compliance can be monitored by the firm using the CISI’s
Superuser function.
However, many firms will already have established a scheme of their own. In such cases, regulated
financial services firms, that are CISI Corporate Supporters, are able to seek CISI accreditation of their
own scheme, for direct use with their employees. In obtaining accreditation, a firm is able to state
that its personal CPD scheme meets the CISI’s and/or the RDR’s rigorous CPD standards. To find out
more, email cpdscheme@cisi.org.
If your firm is not currently a Corporate Supporter please visit cisi.org/corporatesupporter to
CISI TV programmes. The short multi-choice quiz has been included to increase user engagement. By
recording a score of 80% or more, the time spent watching the webcast will change from Reflective
IntegrityMatters
IntegrityMatters is a tailored elearning tool designed to highlight dilemmas
faced at work. It enables users to test their ability to make ethical decisions in the workplace and
consists of both a workshop and a full test.
By participating in the programme, members are required to
tackle six separate case studies which develop depending on
how they answer the question. In some cases the scenario will
end after just a few questions, whilst others will take much
longer. The number of CPD hours members are allocated is a
reflection of their grade.
Passing IntegrityMatters with an A grade is compulsory
for those members wishing to progress to Chartered
membership. Additionally, in furtherance of the CISI’s aim to
increase ethical awareness, from 1 April 2013 UK candidates
