Main purpose of job:<br />

To assist the Director of Outreach & <strong>Education</strong> to devise and implement the education strategy in a<br />

national context. Key priorities for the post are: growing new links with Local Authorities and other<br />

external partners; the identification of artistic, educational and funding opportunities to enable projects<br />

that support our strategy; the project management of a number of core programmes.<br />

Key accountabilities:<br />

• Project management of a range of the department’s core and non-core activities.<br />

• In conjunction with the Director of Outreach & <strong>Education</strong>, develop a strategic approach towards<br />

building new relationships with external organisations including: Local Authorities, arts companies<br />

and voluntary organisations.<br />

• Keeping abreast of relevant <strong>Scottish</strong> Government and Local Authority developments & initiatives<br />

pertaining to the delivery of the arts in Scotland, with particular reference to a Curriculum for<br />

Excellence as the core delivery mechanism for <strong>Scottish</strong> schools curriculum at the current time.<br />

• Act as the principal contact for the co-ordination of the department’s IT initiatives including web-site<br />

content and on-line support materials.<br />

• Research and identify new approaches, creative initiatives and teaching methodologies that raise the<br />

profile and develop the perception of opera not only within the arts and education sectors but also<br />

with the wider public across Scotland.<br />

• Project manage various core programmes including small scale tour support programme, Singing<br />

Master Classes, Sounds of Singing Concerts, CONNECT and a range of new initiatives to be developed.<br />

• Contacting freelance staff (as selected by the Head of Department) to ascertain availability to<br />

implement core projects.<br />

• Drawing up contracts for such artists and animateurs and line management of same for the duration<br />

of their contract.<br />

• All School liaisons pertaining to these projects.<br />

• All Local Authority Specialist personnel pertaining to these projects.<br />

• All internal <strong>Scottish</strong> <strong>Opera</strong> liaison with relevant colleagues in the Orchestra, Planning, Marketing &<br />

Communications, Music and Fundraising & Sponsorship departments in respect of the project you<br />

manage.

Key accountabilities cont.<br />

• Contributing information for press release and marketing campaigns copy to the Marketing &<br />

Communications department.<br />

• Liaising with same on photographer/press<br />

• Arranging rehearsal schedule and space.<br />

• Teaching packs/CD’s: all administration/organisation relating to gathering information on same,<br />

providing Marketing & Communications department with relevant information/ sourcing and<br />

ordering specialised stationery packs.<br />

• Produce and maintain monitoring and evaluation systems for all projects that you manage including<br />

all standard Health & Safety systems and procedures required.<br />

• Take a pro-active role in any IT/Website developments that are planned by the Director of Marketing<br />

& Communications in respect of the <strong>Education</strong> department: attend meetings, familiarise yourself with<br />

the basics of the technology as well as research examples of other sites and initiatives that may offer<br />

useful benefits to our own site.<br />

• Liaise with the Medium/Small scale Touring Manager on all aspects of the tour and the associated<br />

education programmes and to attend regular meetings with this colleague to achieve co-ordinated<br />

activity.<br />

• Take a pro-active role in the development of Audience Development strategies (led by Marketing<br />

dept) especially those focused in enhancing Under 26 year’s attendance at productions.<br />

• As part of the <strong>Education</strong> team, to do-develop and formulate strategies to maintain the artistic<br />

integrity of the <strong>Education</strong> department.<br />

• To represent the Director of <strong>Education</strong> & Outreach as appropriate on behalf of <strong>Scottish</strong> <strong>Opera</strong> at<br />

various national and international networks, events and conferences and to provide colleagues within<br />

the arts and/or education sectors with information on our programmes and where appropriate<br />

develop new contacts and partnerships with them.<br />

• Prepare and submit applications to achieve funding to support projects, both core and those<br />

requiring additional funding.<br />

• Produce reports and statistics for use by the <strong>Scottish</strong> Government, Local Authorities, the Fundraising<br />

& Sponsorship and the Marketing & Communications departments.<br />

• Ensure that all Disclosure Scotland information pertaining to personnel employed on projects are<br />

forwarded to the <strong>Education</strong> Manager (Logistics) for processing.<br />

• Ensure that all payment details pertaining to personnel employed on all projects are forwarded to the<br />

<strong>Education</strong> Manager (Logistics) for processing.<br />

• All other reasonable duties as requested/required.

Personal Profile<br />

Qualification<br />

• Professional (degree standard minimum) qualification in an Arts subject:<br />

Music, Theatre, Dance or Visual Arts or associated areas such as Events <strong>Opera</strong>tions management<br />

Knowledge, Skills & Experience<br />

• A minimum of two years experience in project managing in the field of arts education.<br />

• Experience of setting project budgets & monitoring<br />

• Excellent organisational skills.<br />

• Good report writing skills.<br />

• Presentation skills.<br />

• Schedule setting and monitoring skills<br />

• Proven communication skills<br />

• Strong inter-personal skills<br />

Additional Information<br />

Be prepared to attend performances outwith Glasgow.<br />

Be prepared to travel and overnight from time to time<br />

Desirable skills<br />

Experience of national and or international children and youth events & conferences e.g. <strong>Scottish</strong> Youth<br />

Parliament - would be useful – either as a participant or organizer. Not necessarily linked to arts.<br />

Ability to read music<br />

Clean driving licence<br />

General Terms & Conditions:<br />

Hours:<br />

9.30 to 17.30 (1-hour unpaid lunch break).<br />

Working outwith these hours will be required on a regular basis<br />

Holidays:<br />

25 days per annum, plus 10 public holidays<br />

Probationary period: 3 months<br />

Annual salary: Grade 1, £26,064 - £31,985<br />

Pension:<br />

The company makes an 8% contribution into the company’s group personal<br />

pension plan on condition that the employee makes a minimum contribution of<br />

4%.
