<strong>Law</strong> <strong>Society</strong> <strong>Tribunal</strong> <strong>Orders</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Dispositions</strong><br />

Toronto, June 1, 2009: <strong>The</strong> <strong>Law</strong> <strong>Society</strong> <strong>of</strong> Upper Canada regulates the lawyers <strong>and</strong> paralegals <strong>of</strong><br />

Ontario in the public interest. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Law</strong> <strong>Society</strong> ensures that all lawyers <strong>and</strong> licensed paralegals in<br />

Ontario meet st<strong>and</strong>ards <strong>of</strong> learning, pr<strong>of</strong>essional competence <strong>and</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional conduct that are<br />

appropriate for the legal services provided.<br />

As part <strong>of</strong> this m<strong>and</strong>ate, the <strong>Law</strong> <strong>Society</strong>'s Hearing <strong>and</strong> Appeal Panels recently heard the following<br />

matters. Hearing <strong>and</strong> Appeal Panels are responsible for determining the appropriate disposition <strong>of</strong><br />

cases.<br />

Nicolino Aless<strong>and</strong>ro, <strong>of</strong> the City <strong>of</strong> Toronto, a paralegal applicant, applied for a Class P1 licence.<br />

Decision: <strong>The</strong> application for a Class P1 Licence is denied.<br />

Joyce <strong>The</strong>resa Choi-Pik Chan (1989), <strong>of</strong> the City <strong>of</strong> Toronto<br />

Decision: <strong>The</strong> Application is dismissed.<br />

Mercy Dadepo (2003), <strong>of</strong> the City <strong>of</strong> Toronto<br />

Decision: Particular two is dismissed. <strong>The</strong> parties shall arrange to reattend before the Panel for disposition. If<br />

the <strong>Law</strong>yer signs an undertaking, the conduct proceedings in relation to Particular 1 will be converted to an<br />

invitation to attend. Once the invitation to attend has taken place, Particular 1 will be dismissed.<br />

Muhammad Arshad Khan, <strong>of</strong> the City <strong>of</strong> Brampton, a paralegal applicant, applied for a Class P1 licence.<br />

Decision: <strong>The</strong> Application is granted.<br />

Gary William Lewin, <strong>of</strong> the City <strong>of</strong> Burlington, a paralegal applicant, applied for a Class P1 licence.<br />

Decision: <strong>The</strong> Applicant’s application for licence is refused.<br />

Myles Frederick McLellan (1980), <strong>of</strong> the Town <strong>of</strong> Innisfil<br />

Decision: <strong>The</strong> <strong>Law</strong>yer’s licence is revoked.<br />

Matthew Rol<strong>and</strong> Riddell, <strong>of</strong> the City <strong>of</strong> Toronto<br />

Decision: <strong>The</strong> Applicant's Notice <strong>of</strong> Ab<strong>and</strong>onment was accepted.<br />

Steven R<strong>and</strong>y Solway (1988), <strong>of</strong> the City <strong>of</strong> Cincinnati, <strong>of</strong> the State <strong>of</strong> Ohio<br />

Decision: <strong>The</strong> matter is adjourned to December 14, 2009 on the condition that the <strong>Law</strong>yer's status be changed<br />

to 1H <strong>and</strong> the <strong>Law</strong>yer is not to resume practising law until he demonstrates his capacity through medical<br />

evidence.<br />

Steven Gary Kaminker (1986), <strong>of</strong> the City <strong>of</strong> Toronto,<br />

Decision: <strong>The</strong> <strong>Law</strong>yer Licensee is suspended for 6 months, to start at the end <strong>of</strong> his current disciplinary <strong>and</strong><br />

administrative suspensions, <strong>and</strong> to continue indefinitely until the <strong>Law</strong>yer Licensee has met specified conditions.<br />

Robert Kendrick MacFarlane (1984), <strong>of</strong> the City <strong>of</strong> Mississauga<br />

Decision: <strong>The</strong> <strong>Law</strong>yer's licence is revoked. He will repay the sum <strong>of</strong> $52,422.33 to the Compensation Fund.<br />

Craig Matthew Mundy (1999), <strong>of</strong> the City <strong>of</strong> Kingston<br />

Decision: <strong>The</strong> <strong>Law</strong>yer is suspended for one month, starting immediately, <strong>and</strong> continuing until a specified<br />

condition is met.


Ioannis Vamvakidis (1994), <strong>of</strong> the Town <strong>of</strong> Vaughan<br />

Decision: <strong>The</strong> <strong>Law</strong>yer is reprim<strong>and</strong>ed.<br />
