Dwight enters his first year at Lander after transferring from Armstrong Atlantic
State University. While not playing for the past two seasons, he led the
Pirates to a 23-7 record and an NCAA Tournament berth in 2008-09. That year
he averaged 15.4 points and 4.9 rebounds per game while shooting 43 percent
from the field (including 42 percent from the three-point line) and 73
percent from the free throw line.
A first-team All-Peach Belt selection, Tolbert scored in double figures in
22 games and was a PBC Player of the Week.
Burkhamer on Tolbert: “Dwight Tolbert is a difference-maker in the
Peach Belt Conference and will be one of the best players in the league.
He has not played in two years, but will bring a tremendous hunger to
the gym and will work to get better everyday. He will make others around
him work harder and will push them to get better. He is a leader and a warrior.
Dwight can do it all on the offensive end of the floor. He runs the floor,
scores in the post, shoots the three, and can put the ball on the floor and get
to the rim. He gives us great flexibility since he can play on the perimeter
against post players or post up smaller wings.”
