EVT 14~ seven years...maybe not that long...but, one night there was a roop of boy scouts in town and they were gonna shack up or camp out n the school grounds and the night police told them it was a little c 01 that night that if they wanted to sleep over to City Hall, they'd make room over there in the back room for them. We have a back room there back of the fire trucks there. 80, the boys slept there hat night. So, that night during...through the night there, the po ice officers on duty (1) and (?) were on duty that night, and they een guys up by the Michigan House on the street and they had some 0 en containers of beer, so they told them they says, "Hey! Get bac inside with your beer.. .get rid of it". So, the boys aust hav t a grudge against them, so after later on when (?) was gone home d (?) was on a separate call over in Rambletown happened out on emergency case over there and when he came back he thought he h ard some noise inside the police station. And our door going into he station had a mail slot on it and we had a habit of wheneTer we d hear someone in there, we'd just raise the mail slot and we'd 1 ok right in there and see what was cookin in our office. So, Fred heard that noise that night in the office so he just opened the mail slot and he peeked in there and he seen attire in there with a ire axe and another one there with two guns in his hand facing the oor, so he moved back slowly. And just when he moved back they sta ed firing right through the door; and Fred moved back and he radio d the State Police and that and the lads run up the alley. And the b st part of it was, that night Fred asked.e could he use my small. So, I told him he could use my small gun, but he put it in his ocker he was ready to go home just berore that and he was without a out there when these guys had broke into our lockers and they got a lour guns which was about five of 'em. I think we had two thirty-ei t... three thirty-eights, one snub-nosed (?) and two forty-rives. An they cleaned out our ammunition and they had a little war of the r own that night. They went from there... they run up the alley, a ross the railroad track and they pounded on a few doors there trying 0 get people to wake up and get their cars...to use their cars. e party they went they asked them for the car keys over there acro s the tracks, I guess one of 'em, he said ! "Get out of here, you a nIt gettin my car keys." So, they took the r guns and they broke a ew windows on his door so he called the police. So when the police found out they were in that area, then pretty soon they were in another...Schultz's over there near the (?) and they went in the and they demanded the keys and the party that was there, he was ome from Pennsylvania and he had a Lincoln Continental parked out th re in the yard, and they wanted the keys for that Continental and h thoUSht they were some rriends of his that come over and were ju kidding about "How about the keys?" "Sure...sure" he said, "1'1 give you the keys." And they says, mwe mean business". And th y parted a shot through his door and up into his ceiling in the kitchen and he said, "You can have the keys, you can have anythi g you want". So, when he seen that and his brother-tn-law wasaee ing out in a tent with the children out there, his brother-tn-law wa sleeptng out in the tent and he jumped one of these guys. But Mr. Schultz said, "Turn 'em loose, we don't want no one to get s ot around here".. .because the other guy had the gun on him already, you know. So, they took off...they took off down the railroad track and
