EVT 14~
he was in there and he talked to this kid about three hours and he
come out and he says, "You know anyother suspects?" I said, "N ,
why?"
"Man I "
He says,
He says,
"He's not the one.
"Think of someone
This
else."
kid
I
is innocent."
said, "I quit
I sid,
righ
there.
I said,
That's the guy."
"There's aathing
He said ~ell, let's
to look for," I says.
go and look aro
We go up to the
d."
place
to see how they got
the place and there
in and we went up there
was no place where they
again
broke
and we looked over
in, you know, we
couldn't figure how they got into this place. So then way back on
the barn we seen a ladder hanging and the
roughed up on the rungs from climbing it,
ladder
see.
looked like it was
So, we check th t
ladder and we said, "Oht...ohtI~I bet they put that up on the r of
and got in some way." So, we went up and put that ladder on th
root and climbed the root. Well, there's a skylight up there b t
everything looked fine. So, we checked the skylight good and w
!ound it. There was one plate of glass in the skylight that wo Id
slide right out. They had the bottom right out and they'd slid
that right out and then slide that back in and drop down throu
there and they'd drop on the top of a oil truck and get down th ough
that way. And that's when we figured out that's where those mo ey
bags are going the same way through there, you know. And I tol the
State Police that time, "That's gotta be the guy". And he says
"Nope!" So that night he went back and I told him ~y morning
we'll have the guy." So I told the night police, f says, "Now,
follow this guy whatever move he makes, follow him." And that ight
they called me, they says, "He went into a hock shop". I says,
"Good!" I figured and I called the hock shop right away. I sa s,
"This is Sullivan callinf'
Mr. Sullivan?" I says,
the Chief
A young lad
of Police of Calumet."
just come in there?"
"Y 8,
She ays,
"Yes", I says, "Keep talking to him, see what he wants to sell,
raise the price tonight," I says,
in our B & E here." So she says,
"because we figure he's a sus ect
"Okay, I'll keep him talking.
She kept...and the girl kept talking to him and then she come t
the phone and then she told me, she said, "He said he paid fift
dollars to stay for a couple hours." "Fine and dandy," I says,
"keep him right there." So then we walked down there...we drov
over there and we went into the place there and I put him under
arrest right there. He said he took the money out of his shoe
right there I pulled his shoes oft and he had about four hundre
nd
dollars in his shoes. So I figured he got a (?) for him up the
And then he did admit...we had him in there and he admitted tha
e.
him and another lad that used to work there...another lad knew he
layout in there and the both of 'em we put under arrest. The k d
was only sixteen, but they waived it here in the Circuit Court...
they waived him that time. The Juvenile in Circuit Court on acc unt
of the State's job and they both got two and a half to five yea s
that time. And one of them was out within four years on good
behaviour or something; but the other one, they tell me, we had
notice that he wouldn't be out yet because he slugged a guard 0
something there in Marquette Prison, you know. And he did get 0 t,
was about seven years later when he got out and he was parolled 0
the Detroit area where he formerly come from. But just goes to
show you.
