UofT Open Fellowship Award
Application Form
The IMS Open Award is available to currently registered domestic students who:
- Are eligible for full funding
- Have been enrolled for six months or longer
- Have an A- average (i.e. 80% or 3.7/4 GPA) in their current program (or previous program if no current
grades are available)
- Have completed a PAC meeting within 6 months of application indicating satisfactory progress
This award is not available to:
- MSc students past year 2 of the MSc program
- PhD students with a Masters degree who are past year 5 of the PhD program (past year 6 if a Direct Entry
PhD student)
- Clinician-scientists enrolled in postgraduate medical education program
- MDs enrolled in a clinical department as Research or Clinical fellows who are supported at a clinical salary
level or equivalent
- Students who have entered their graduate program under the “Professional Earnings” category

RANKING. Awards are based primarily on academic achievement, as evidenced by grades and progress towards
degree completion. Once academic eligibility requirements are met, consideration is given to financial need as
follows:
a) Students who are not fully funded
b) Fully funded students who receive a portion of their stipend from operating grant stipends
AWARD VALUE: The UofT Open Fellowship is valued at $3000. Students with substantial external peerreviewed
awards may have the UofT Open award value reduced, at the discretion of the Awards Committee.
This award is considered as part of the student’s annual stipend. Supervisors are notified of award receipt and
may adjust funds disbursed to the student from operating grant funds accordingly. Award recipients should discuss
this with their supervisor.
PAYMENTS. Award payments are processed centrally via the Office of Inter-Faculty and Graduate Affairs,
Faculty of Medicine. Payments are made via cheque mailed directly to the student. Students who wish direct
deposit of funds must enroll in the direct deposit program via the ROSI web site. Award recipients may have
outstanding tuition fees deducted at source from the award.
