<strong>The</strong> <strong>application</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>all</strong> <strong>supporting</strong> <strong>documents</strong>, <strong>including</strong> <strong>original</strong> transcripts<br />

from <strong>all</strong> post-secondary institutions must be sent to the IMS office by the<br />

internal Deadline: Friday November 9, 2012<br />

Purpose<br />

<strong>The</strong> Canada Graduate Scholarships Master's Awards administered by CIHR (CGSM) are<br />

intended to provide special recognition <strong>and</strong> support to students who are pursuing a<br />

Master's degree in a health related field in Canada. <strong>The</strong>se c<strong>and</strong>idates are expected to have<br />

an exception<strong>all</strong>y high potential for future research achievement <strong>and</strong> productivity.<br />

Value <strong>and</strong> Duration<br />

<strong>The</strong>se awards have a maximum term of one year <strong>and</strong> are valued at $17,500 per annum.<br />

This year, approximately 140 CGS Master’s Awards will be offered in the February 2013<br />

competition. University of Toronto has been provided with an <strong>application</strong> quota of 41.<br />

CIHR CGS-M Eligibility (see website for additional requirements)<br />

· <strong>The</strong> Nominated Principal Applicant must be seeking financial support to pursue their<br />

first graduate degree (i.e., Master's or PhD).<br />

· At the time of the CIHR deadline for <strong>application</strong> (February 1, 2013), the Nominated<br />

Principal Applicant must:<br />

i. have completed or be in the last year of a Bachelor's degree; or,<br />

ii. have been registered for no more than ten months as a full-time student<br />

at the Master's level*; <strong>and</strong>/or,


iii. have been registered for no more than ten months as a full-time PhD<br />

student <strong>and</strong> were admitted to the PhD program directly from the<br />

Bachelor's degree*.<br />

*All previous studies at the graduate level, regardless of discipline, either course-based or<br />

research-based, <strong>and</strong> regardless of student status will be included in determining eligibility.<br />

Please note that two months of part-time or special student status study will be counted as<br />

one month of full-time study.<br />

2012-13 Competition Timelines<br />

IMS Internal Deadline November 9, 2012<br />

*Please note that a paper copy of the completed <strong>application</strong> must be submitted to the<br />

IMS office by the IMS’ internal deadline.<br />

Individuals eligible to apply to the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships program may<br />

submit an <strong>application</strong> to both programs. This is the only exception where an individual may<br />

submit two <strong>application</strong>s in the same year (i.e. September through August).<br />
