No more teachers, no more books
with Father Michael
I know I left the school back in June. But somehow I seem to
be aware of it more this week than I have been the last two
months. While being chaplain, the time during the summer always
had a different rhythm. I guess something inside of me is
expecting the school routine to start up again. But for me it is no
more teachers or books. As I have said before, while I will miss
high school ministry, I could not be any happier with my
assignment here at Holy Cross. For all you teachers and
students, welcome back to school. You will be back in the swing
of things quick enough.
We received word that Deacon Jerry’s mother passed away over the weekend.
Marie Steffens was 97. While there is sadness in hearing about her death, there is
also a sense of peace and happiness that they are united again. We continue to hold
them in our prayers.
Today our regular Mass schedule resumes. The 5:00PM Sunday evening Mass will
take place on a weekly basis. At tonight’s Mass there will be a special
acknowledgement and thank you for Denise Cortegiano who has served as our Youth
Minister for the past 15 years. We wish her well as she moves on in her own journey.
Msgr. Bob Thelen will also be returning to our Mass schedule rotation. He was
helping in another parish for the summer. He will now also be assisting at St.
Dominic’s Church in Oyster Bay on a regular basis. This means he will be here at
Holy Cross every other weekend. He will be scheduled to say two Sunday morning
Masses on the second and fourth weekend of every month. We are blessed to have
Fr. Bob here at Holy Cross to help with our Masses.
There are a few projects that I have mentioned for which I am looking for some
helping hands. I would like to create a “Hallway of History” outside the main office. I
need folks who can help compile, frame, and creatively display pictures of important
moments in the life of Holy Cross. I am also looking for professional and skilled
individuals who could create a Buildings and Grounds Committee to help oversee our
parish facilities. Please let me know if you are able to assist with either of these
undertakings.
It was a quiet week at the house. Nothing fell apart and I did not paint anything
ridiculous colors.
Peace and Blessings.
WOMEN’S PRAYER
September already? Wow! Can hardly believe how fast the days of summer have passed. Yet, in our
spiritual lives each day is a gift we are to treasure. How do we continue to treasure each one?
By spending time with our Creator:
Saturday, September 14th from 9:30 to 11:00 AM
Women’s Prayer will meet in the Fr. Joe Room and spend some precious time with our God in quiet
reflection. We welcome you and invite you to come share with us your special brand of Spirituality. As
one woman in the group says, it is “a gift for myself.” Give yourself this opportunity away from
schedules, chores, carpooling, juggling it all, and spend some time for YOU with the one who loves you
and gifts you with each day!!
