WHAT IS THE BTEC CERTIFICATE IN PLANNING AND ADMINISTERING<br />
EXTERNAL EXAMINATIONS?<br />
This level 4 qualification is designed to deliver, improve <strong>and</strong> validate the complex skills, knowledge <strong>and</strong><br />
underst<strong>and</strong><strong>in</strong>g required to be an effective exam<strong>in</strong>ations officer. The course will:<br />
• Increase the level of underst<strong>and</strong><strong>in</strong>g among exam<strong>in</strong>ations officers about the exam<strong>in</strong>ations process<br />
• Improve the efficiency of the relationship between award<strong>in</strong>g bodies <strong>and</strong> centres’ exam<strong>in</strong>ations officers<br />
• Assist exam<strong>in</strong>ations officers <strong>in</strong> the exam<strong>in</strong>ations plann<strong>in</strong>g process<br />
• Contribute to the cont<strong>in</strong>u<strong>in</strong>g professional development of exam<strong>in</strong>ations officers<br />
WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?<br />
The qualification is primarily designed for those who are work<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> or aspir<strong>in</strong>g to move to a management role <strong>in</strong> the<br />
exam<strong>in</strong>ations process <strong>in</strong> colleges or schools; <strong>in</strong> particular, those staff who have responsibility for ensur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>ternal<br />
exam<strong>in</strong>ation systems are efficient <strong>and</strong> effective. Specifically:<br />
• Exam<strong>in</strong>ations officers at the appropriate managerial level who wish to validate their skills, knowledge<br />
<strong>and</strong> underst<strong>and</strong><strong>in</strong>g<br />
• Newly appo<strong>in</strong>ted or soon to be appo<strong>in</strong>ted exam<strong>in</strong>ations officers<br />
• Appropriate staff who have responsibility for the exam<strong>in</strong>ations process<br />
HOW DOES IT WORK?<br />
The learn<strong>in</strong>g is totally onl<strong>in</strong>e, with guidance from <strong>in</strong>dividual Onl<strong>in</strong>e Tutors for all of the units; there is also a<br />
designated contact based at <strong>SfE</strong>. The Onl<strong>in</strong>e Tutor supports the learner <strong>and</strong> assesses the assignments for the unit.<br />
The learner must complete four units of study to achieve the qualification:<br />
Unit 1 The Exam<strong>in</strong>ation System Unit 3 Mark<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> Amend<strong>in</strong>g Exam<strong>in</strong>ation Entries<br />
Unit 2 Personal Skills <strong>in</strong> the Exam<strong>in</strong>ation Process Unit 4 Exam<strong>in</strong>ation Schedul<strong>in</strong>g<br />
HOW IS THE COURSE ASSESSED?<br />
Each of the units will be assessed through a series of module tasks. Through these tasks the learner will<br />
demonstrate underst<strong>and</strong><strong>in</strong>g of the learn<strong>in</strong>g outcomes to a level of depth <strong>and</strong> breadth commensurate with a<br />
level 4 qualification. On completion of the unit, assessment will be through an assignment that draws together the<br />
materials gathered through the module tasks. The portfolio built throughout the period of study will create a work<strong>in</strong>g<br />
manual for the exam<strong>in</strong>ations department.
