DEPARTMENT OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (DST), New Delhi
The Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, launched the INSPIRE —
Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research – Programme in December 2008. This program
aims to attract talented students to take up Science as Career and to become Scientists. The Basic
objective of INSPIRE is to communicate to the youth of the country the excitements of creative
pursuit of science, attract talent to the study of science at an early stage and thus build the required
critical human resource pool for strengthening and expanding the Science & Technology System and
R&D base. The programme is being generously funded by the Department of Science & Technology,
Government of India, New Delhi.
More than 1050 students have participated in this inspire camp during last two years. The
mentors who have interacted with the students during the above programme are Bhatnagar Awardees,
Fellows of Academic of Science, and distinguish scientist from different parts of India.
About the Department: The Department of GEOLOGY was awarded the UGC through its SPECIAL ASSISTANCE
PROGRAMME under DSA- LEVEL I for Research and Development programmes and sanctioned an amount of Rs. 56 Lakhs for the
period 2007-2012. The Department of GEOLOGY was awarded the FIST PROGRAMME (Phase – I) by the Department of Science of
Technology, New Delhi for the years 2003-2008 with a grant of Rs. 60.0 Lakhs. The Department of GEOLOGY was awarded the FIST
PROGRAMME (Phase – II) by the Department of Science of Technology, New Delhi for the years 2012-2017 with a grant of Rs. 1.50
Crores. The SCHOOL OF EARTH AND ATMOSPHERIC SCIENCES was awarded Centre with Potential of Excellence in
Particular Area (CPEPA) by UGC with a grant of Rs. 2.30 Crores (Department of Geology is one of the Three Participating
Departments.)
We are going to conduct the above camps for more than 600 students during this academic year
2013-14. It is proposed to organize four camps during 8-12, August, 2013; 3 –7, October 2013;
5–9, December 2013; 6 –10, February 2014.
The above camps are sponsored by Department of Science and Technology, DST, Government of
India, New Delhi under the implementation of DST Inspire programme.( to know more about INSPIRE click on
