Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH)
Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH)
provides palliative, end-of-life care to Algoma residents and
their families. ARCH is committed to the belief that life is
meant to be lived fully with dignity and comfort to the end.
Dedicated staff, volunteers and community partners provides
compassionate care to meet the physical, emotional, social, and
spiritual needs of those we are privileged to serve.
Registered Nurses and Personal Support Workers
provide 24 hour professional care. Physicians and nursing staff
work closely with a team of other professionals and volunteers
who can be involved with the resident's care as needed. This
team may include a social worker, a pharmacist, a massage therapist and hospice volunteers. Depending
on the residents' needs, our team may also include an occupational therapist, dietician, art therapist,
physiotherapist and clergy of the resident's choosing. We all work towards providing the best care to suit
our resident's needs.
Residential Hospice Care
We look on the Hospice as an extension of an individual's home. Our furnishings are home-like
and routines are flexible to suit the needs and wishes of those we serve.
Our care includes:
• Comprehensive pain and symptom management
• Professional palliative care nursing services to residents and families in a tranquil, home-like
environment
• Dignity, comfort, compassion and support to residents and families
• Supportive care that attends to emotional, spiritual and social needs
Our Team supports opportunities for residents to spend time doing what is important to them at this
stage in life. We do everything we can to connect our residents with what they find meaningful. We
celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and special occasions, including weddings. Families are welcome to
gather at the Hospice for meals and spend special holidays with their loved ones.
Additionally, Bereavement Services (emotional, social and spiritual support) are available for
families and loved ones of ARCH residents.
ARCH is partially government funded, requiring $750,000 annually in external funding, as well as
the generosity of nearly two hundred dedicated staff and volunteer members to provide its services to the
community.
Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH) hosts several events each year to raise funds for
hospice operational expenses. We also have great support from individuals, community groups and
businesses that run events and donate the proceeds to ARCH.
