2012 TOURNAMENT PRESENTED BY:
2011 TOURNAMENT SUMMARY
Bay Street firms once again came together to support the annual Bay Street Hockey Tournament,
helping to raise over $120,000 in support of Dr. Erwin Oechslin’s work in
Adult Congenital Heart Disease at Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, Toronto General Hospital.
The 2011 tournament was presented by new lead sponsor Welded Tube of Canada.
Fifteen teams from the financial industry and one host
team from Toronto General & Western Hospital Foundation
participated in two divisions. Division A was comprised of
6 teams while 10 teams made up Division B. After a
competitive preliminary round, the playoffs continued to
showcase the excellent level of play that the Bay Street Hockey
Tournament has become known for.
GMP Securities defeated Paradigm Capital by a score of 2-1
on Sunday May 1 to take the Division A Championship of the
2011 edition of the Bay Street Hockey Tournament. In the
highly competitive Division A, GMP Securities entered the
playoffs as the 3rd seed where they clipped Wellington
West Capital Markets by a score of 3-2 in the semi finals
before facing Paradigm Capital in the final. The last time
GMP won the Bay Street Tournament was 1999.
K2 & Associates took home the Division B Championship
with a hard fought 4-3 victory over TD Securities.
On route to the final, K2 & Associates defeated Haywood
Securities earlier in the day in the semi-finals. This was
the first year in the tournament for K2 & Associates but
many players including captain Blair Schultz had played
in previous years.
Mr. Butch Mandel (Executive vice President and Co-CEO of
Welded Tube of Canada) was on hand to present the
championship trophies along with Dr. Erwin Oechslin and
Linda Goldsack (Chair, Peter Munk Cardiac Centre Campaign).
