Fund update
Expectations for economic growth remain subdued for
2013, there are hopes for improvement next year but
even then output is not expected to expand at the
pace achieved in past recoveries. Low interest rates
and a loose monetary policy have been a key
component of the government's efforts to stimulate
growth with a low Official Base Rate augmented by
the Bank of England's Funding for Lending Scheme. By
this facility banks are able to borrow substantial sums
as required and at very low interest rates, effectively
bypassing the commercial money markets. The effect
of this on money market interest rates has been to
cause them to weaken materially; we expect no
change in the position for the foreseeable future.
