Kensington and Chelsea College runs over 900 courses in 4 main centres 

throughout the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. A lively 

borough home to many famous London landmarks, it boasts 

a vibrant culture, which extends to college life. We also have 

a number of smaller sites all based in the Royal Borough 

and we work in close partnership with many community 

organisations to ensure that you have the greatest possible 

choice of location. We hope your time at the College will be

Apprenticeships for Young People aged 16-24 

If it is important for your success that your younger staff develop 

in their roles through a training package leading to nationally 

recognised qualifications, Kensington and Chelsea College can 

help with Apprenticeship training. You may be eligible to receive 

funded training and support. 

Your employees will be visited regularly by an assessor who 

will observe them in the workplace and advise them on how 

to gather evidence for their NVQ portfolio. They will review 

progress with you and your employee and help them plan 

their learning. 

Your younger staff can join our Apprenticeship programme 

at Level 2 or 3, designed to ensure your employees meet the 

required industry standard for childcare, healthcare or business 

administration and provide them with suitable support in English 

and Maths. Apprenticeships you can choose from:

As well as support at work for their NVQ Level 2 or 3, 

your younger employees will attend a regular workshop at

based in the UK for life, study and work here. 

It has been developed in conjunction with the ESOL 

core curriculum, the first fully-developed national 

programme for English language learners. You will 

develop your English language skills in speaking, 

listening, reading and writing at the right level for 

you. You will also cover key grammar and vocabulary. 

Each term you will prepare for an ESOL Skills for Life 

exam with a qualified and enthusiastic teacher. 

In addition to gaining recognised qualifications you 

will feel more integrated into UK life and society, and 

more confident about applying for jobs or further 

study, through your work on this programme.

The Entry Level courses are for complete beginners, those with very little knowledge 

of computers, and are titled Beginners and Beginners/Improvers. They study for the 

Open College North West range of exams. The next stage (Intermediate) comprises 

the Certificates for IT Users (CLAIT) at Levels 1 and 2. This enables students to use the 

computer and a range of applications with greater confidence and ability. The final 

stage is the European Computer Driving Licence which means students will leave the 

course proficient in the Internet and Email, Word Processing, Database, Spreadsheets 

and Presentation Graphics. Each course lasts one term.

This course is for anyone with a good grounding in maths who needs GCSE level for access to employment, university or teacher training. 

Topics include geometry and graphs, algebra and statistics. The final grade comes from course work (20%) and written exams (80%)

From September 2007 a new teacher qualifications framework has been 

introduced by the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS) 

for those teaching or wishing to teach in the Learning and Skills Sector. 

This includes further education colleges, sixth form colleges, 

adult and community learning and offender learning.

should be aware that the content of each qualification is not

Which course should I apply for? 

Your choice of course will depend on whether you are already in a teaching role with teaching hours. Candidates interested in becoming 

teachers in the sector but without teaching hours may be suitable for the PTLLS award. Those candidates who already have teaching 

hours in the lifelong learning sector and who wish to attain Qualified Teacher Learning & Skills status will be required to enrol on the 

DTLLS programme. Please note that candidates who complete the City & Guilds 7304 CTLLS will be entitled to claim Associate Teacher 

Learning & Skills (ATLS) status.

How to Enrol 

A. Courses with an envelope symbol * 

No interview is required to enrol on these ‘Direct Enrolment’ 

courses. You are required to enrol and pay at the same time. 

Option 1: Enrol and Pay online at www.kcc.ac.uk 

Find the course to take through the ‘Choose your course’ area of 

the website, click on ‘Enrol now’ and follow instructions. If you are 

claiming a concessionary fee you will need to provide evidence of 

your entitlement when you come in for your first class. 

Failure to do this will result in your being charged the full fee. 

Option 2: Enrol and Pay by Post 

Simply complete the Enrolment form contained in the middle of this 

course listing clearly IN CAPITALS following the instructions 

at the top of the form. 

You will then need to enclose the following with your 

enrolment form: 

• Cheque or Postal order payable to KENSINGTON AND 

CHELSEA COLLEGE. Please enclose A SEPARATE cheque 

or postal order for EACH COURSE. Ensure Cheques have 

a VALID cheque guarantee card number AND expiry date 

written on the back of the cheque. 

• Do not forget to ENCLOSE A COPY OF PROOF OF 

CONCESSIONARY BENEFIT (if applicable) with this form. 

FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE ABOVE INSTRUCTIONS WILL 

RESULT IN A DELAY IN PROCESSING YOUR FORM AND MAY 

RESULT IN A LOSS OF A PLACE ON THE COURSE. 

Then post by the deadline of 10 working days prior to the

Option 3: Enrol and Pay in person:

• Please make sure you have ALL THE RELEVANT DOCUMENTARY 

EVIDENCE (if applicable see page 90) with you when you enrol 

as failure to prove concessionary benefit at the time of enrolment 

(payment) will result in a delay in processing your form and may 

result in a loss of place on your course. 

PLEASE NOTE: 

In order for you to claim a concession you must produce 

documentary evidence, which is no more than 3 months old, each 

time you enrol (see p90 How much will I pay?) You will 

be asked whether you qualify for reduced fees. Please remember 

that if you claim a reduction you must provide proof that you 

are entitled to it.

B. Courses with a Qualification symbol Q only 

It is necessary to apply for these courses. You will only have 

your place confirmed and be required to pay for these courses 

following a successful interview. Please make sure you have all 

the relevant documentary evidence (if applicable) with you when 

you attend your interview so that you may enrol and guarantee 

yourself a place on the course. 

Option 1: Apply Online 

Find the course you want to take through the ‘Choose you Course’ 

area of the website. Click on the ‘Apply Now’ and this will take 

you to the application form. We will then contact you to arrange 

an interview. Please note that this option is not available for 

Modern Foreign Languages, Basic Skills or English as Foreign 

Language/Second Language (EFL/ESOL) courses where there are 

specific Advice and Guidance times in the course listing, course 

guide, on the website or from our course enquiries line on 

0207 573 5333. Please do not send in details for these 

courses just turn up at the specific times. 

Option 2: Apply by Post 

Simply complete the application form in the middle of this course 

listing and post to either:

My company is paying for me what do I do? 

Follow the procedures for enrolment depending on qualification or 

direct enrolment course. You will need to include a letter from your 

company on headed stationary (no photocopies please, we need 

the original) stating: 

• your name 

• the course 

• the course code, time and date 

• the fee they are to pay for you once you have assessed your 

status from (p90 How much will I pay?) 

• and that they wish to be invoiced 

If you do not provide this then your enrolment will be delayed and 

you could lose your place on the course. 

If during your course you leave your job then it is your 

responsibility to reimburse the company if required.

How much will I pay? 

Fees can be found within the course information on our 

website www.kcc.ac.uk or against the course details within 

the course listings. 

• The first fee is a standard fee for all courses. 

• The second fee (in brackets) is a concessionary fee. 

To be eligible for concessionary fees you will need to be in 

receipt of one of the following means tested benefits or fall into 

one of the following criteria: 

Benefits: 

• Housing, Council Tax Benefit, Income Support. 

• Unemployed learners in receipt of Jobseekers’ Allowance. 

• Learners or their partners in receipt of Working Tax Credit 

with a household income of less than £15,050. 

• Guarantee Pension Credit. 

Criteria: 

• 16-18 year olds on full or part-time courses; aged under 

19 on 31 August in the calendar year in which they start 

their programme of study will be free. 

• All learners studying for their first full Level 2 qualification and 

19-24 year olds on their first full level 3 qualification will get 

the course for a concessionary rate. 

• Learners who are the unwaged dependants (as defined by the 

Benefits Agency) of those in receipt of the benefits listed above. 

Please note for dependants of JSA receivers the benefit must be 

income based only. 

• Learners over 60 living in the borough (specific courses only). 

• Learners taking programmes where the learning aim is 

basic skills. 

• Learners who are asylum seekers in receipt of the equivalent 

of income based benefit and their dependants. 

To be able to claim a concessionary fee, learners must be 

able to show acceptable means tested evidence for copying. 

THIS EVIDENCE MUST BE LESS THAN 3 MONTHS OLD. 

We will require this each time you enrol. 

Please bring with you: 

1. A recent bank statement showing benefits being paid in 

ACCOMPANIED by: 

• the relevant TC602 form for Working Tax Credit. 

• supporting letter from the DSS (this letter CAN be more than 3 

months old) ; stating what benefit or income/contribution based 

claim for JSA. 

• A letter from the council stating Housing benefit or Council/ 

tax benefit. 

2. Proof of age for 16-18 year olds, either a passport or birth 

certificate or driving licence. 

3. Proof of age for learners over 60 and proof of residency.

4. Asylum seekers, need evidence that they are receiving support 

e.g. a letter, NASS vouchers, a post office pay out receipt 

for financial support along with their photo card or 

local government support letter (IND card on its own is 

NOT enough). 

For courses that are coded EBK and have Birkbeck alongside the 

course title, learners over 60 have to be in receipt of means tested 

benefit to receive the concessionary fee. Learners under 19 cannot 

enrol on these courses OR Access to Higher Education Courses. 

Non EU and International student fees: 

To be eligible for the standard fee you need to have been 

ordinarily resident in the UK (and UK islands), EU or EEA 

country for the 3 years preceding the relevant date of the course. 

All overseas fees are available on the website. 

• Relevant date is the 1st of September, January or April 

preceding the course start date. 

• The main purpose for such residence was not to receive 

full-time education during any part of the three-year period. 

• Is “settled” in the UK; ‘settled’ means having either indefinite 

leave to enter or remain (ILE/R) or having Right of Abode 

in the UK. 

• Anyone who is recognised as a refugee by the UK Government 

(granted Refugee Status) who has remained ordinarily resident. 

• Asylum seekers and their dependants in receipt of: income 

based benefits; assistance or financial assistance (subsistence 

payments) from the National Asylum Support Service (NASS); 

and/or in receipt of assistance under the National Assistance 

Act 1948. 

• Persons with humanitarian protection and discretionary leave 

and their spouses and children. 

• The spouse or civil partner of a person with settled status, who 

has been both married, and resident in the UK, for one year. 

Students not ordinarily resident in the UK; EU or EEA will be 

charged the non EU fee. If you are unsure of your status we will 

willingly look at your fee assessment with you. Please make sure 

you bring all relevant documentation and your passport with you 

at the time of enrolment. 

Overseas learners, whose main purpose for residence in the UK 

has been to attend a fee-paying school or college, are not eligible 

for the standard fee. 

Overseas learners attending short courses as visitors to England, 

including holiday or summer school learning in particular English 

as a foreign language (EFL) will not be eligible for standard fee.

If you need to apply for a student visa to study in the UK, you will 

be asked to show you are enrolled on a course of at least fifteen 

hours a week, for more than six months. We can only issue a 

Home Office letter after the fees have been paid.

CAN I GET A REFUND OR A TRANSFER? 

You are entitled to a full refund if you withdraw from a course 

2 weeks or more before the course starts. 

The college will also refund your money in full if your course is 

closed or the time or venue is changed and you have to withdraw 

as a result of this. 

You may be entitled to transfer to another course or in exceptional 

circumstances a voucher or partial refund by voucher excluding an 

administration charge valid for one calendar year. 

However, please note that the college does not normally 

refund fees after the course has started, if you withdraw due 

to a change in your personal circumstances. 

Unless due to unforeseen circumstance brought on by the 

college changing course venue, time or closure; transferring 

to another course will be limited to once per enrolment and 

will not be acceptable after the 4th week of the course. 

If at the time of enrolment you do not have the relevant 

documentation to receive a concessionary fee and pay a 

standard fee to ensure a place on a course then a full refund 

of the difference will be made. If however, you are awaiting 

confirmation of benefit at the start of the course then a refund 

will be made only for the outstanding terms of the course. 

This also applies to change in working status during the course. 

So if the course is only one term then no refund will be made. 

Please ensure you retain your payment receipt as NO refund 

or transfer can be made without this.
