We’re welcoming the new year with some fantastic programming 

on KCTS 9, including Downton Abbey Season Two and the first in a 

new series of KCTS 9 original documentaries. 

Our new documentaries will get underway Monday, January 30, at 

9:00 p.m. with an in-depth report on the alarming rise in prescription- 

drug addiction in Washington state. Co-produced with nonprofit 

journalism organization InvestigateWest, Prescription for Abuse looks 

at the growing epidemic of legal-painkiller abuse and the changing 

face of drug addiction. Future specials will deal with local issues 

around the environment, education and human rights—part of our 

commitment to bringing you expanded original programming that 

tells the stories of the people, places and issues impacting the Northwest. 

World-class arts, entertaining drama, trusted public-service journalism— 

there's much more to come on KCTS 9 in 2012, and your support makes

Dear Friends of KCTS 9, 

You may have already heard that 

I’m coming back in January with another 

series. But you may not have heard 

exactly why. It’s not just that I don’t 

have any retirement skills, as my 

wife and co-editor, Judith, keeps 

reminding me. Or that the 

squeaking rocking chair got on 

my nerves. I’m coming back 

because in tumultuous times 

like these I relish the company 

of people who make sense 

of the tumult. Those are the 

people I’ll bring to my new 

broadcast, Moyers & Company. 

Journalism has long been for 

me a continuing course in adult 

education. given what’s happening 

nowadays, I’m signing up for more 

classes. Battered by a hundred new 

sensations every day, I swing between 

gloom and hope. I wonder if any of us in this 

disputatious, over-analyzed, over-televised, overwired 

and under-tenderized country know what the deuce 

we’re talking about, myself included. Well into my seventh decade, 

all my illusions are up for grabs and I find myself reassessing many 

of the assumptions that served me comfortably much of my life. 

I need all the help I can get in figuring out how to remain faithful to 

what really matters. 

So I’ll be reaching out in this new series to people who have tested their 

ideas against experience, who are engaged in the trials and errors of 

democracy, and who believed the health of our body politic is everybody’s 

business. george Orwell believed that “all issues are political issues.” 

Scientists, historians, artists, novelists, physicians and physicists—they all 

help us see the world anew, and to make informed choices. So this will be 

a political series, but not a partisan one. In the conversation of democracy, 

everyone’s invited. 

This includes you. You’re welcome to share opinions in the marketplace 

of ideas we’ll be offering with our all-new website—billmoyers.com—as 

well as on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and YouTube. Our aim is dialogue, 

not diatribe, and we want you in it.

4 6-ounce skinless chicken breast halves 

1 cup panko bread crumbs 

1 cup pecans, finely chopped, plus extra 

chopped pecans for garnish 

1 egg 

W cup milk 

1 cup flour 

W cup vegetable oil (or corn, peanut or olive oil) 

chopped parsley for garnish 

honey mustard sauce 

V cup mayonnaise 

W cup stone-ground mustard 

1 tablespoon sweet rice wine vinegar 

2 tablespoons honey 

1 tablespoon whole milk

Trim chicken breasts and pound out lightly to an 

even thickness. Combine panko and pecans in a 

baking pan or pie plate, and mix together well. 

In a separate pie plate, whisk egg and milk together 

to make an egg wash. Place flour in a separate, 

medium bowl. Dredge chicken in the flour first, 

then dip thoroughly in the egg wash. Finish with 

the panko-pecan coating. Press chicken down on 

both sides to cover completely. 

Heat oil on medium in a large (12-inch) frying pan. 

Add prepared chicken and cook for 4 to 5 minutes 

on each side, until coating is mahogany brown. 

Place all ingredients for Honey Mustard Sauce in 

a cold saucepan. Heat to medium; do not boil, or 

sauce will separate. When warm, about 150 degrees, 

remove from heat. When chicken is ready, place on 

plates and top with sauce. Sprinkle with chopped 

pecans and parsley, and serve with mashed 

potatoes and steamed vegetables.
