Brief biography of Eugene Delacroix Ferdinand Eugene Victor Delacroix, known as a “master of colour”, was one of the most renowned painters of the French history. Delacroix was born a painter, his artistic family sent him to study art at the age of 17, to the studio of the aforementioned Neoclassical painter, Pierre Guerin, where he met Géricault, who had an astonishing influence on the young Delacroix. ▲ The Barque of Dante In 1822, aged 24, Delacroix already demonstrated a considerable impact of the Eugene Delacroix Michelangelo’s and Rubens’s paintings, which is particularly evident in his first, 1822 and already successful, attempt to gain entrance into Paris Salon of 1822. Next Oil on canvas successful bid at Salon was in 1824 with his Massacre at Chios, a Romantic 189 x 241.5 cm depiction of a contemporary event, which had taken place two years before. Louvre, Paris Massacre at Chios already displayed the abandonment of the grandeur of the Classic subject matter.
