ARTS IN IRELAND
아일랜드는 문학과 음악, 춤 등 다채롭고 풍성한 문화를 자랑합니다. 아일랜드 출신으로 노벨문학상을 받은
작가만 해도 죠지 버나드 쇼와 W.B. 예이츠, 샤뮤엘 베켓, 시에무스 히니 등 네 명이나 됩니다. 스티프 리틀
핑거스, 웨스트라이프, U2, 크랜베리스, 씬 리지 등 다양한 장르의 뮤지션들도 세계적인 인기를 얻고 있습
니다. 엔야와 밴 모리슨, 클라나드, 스노우 패트롤 등도 물론 빼놓을 수 없겠죠. ‘리버댄스’나 ‘댄스의 제왕’
과 같은 공연을 통해서도 세계 관중들을 만나고 있고, 아일랜드 영화 '원스(Once)'는 한국에서 가장 성공
한 외국어 영화라는 기록을 세우기도 했습니다. IN KOREA: 한국아일랜드협회(IAK)는 제임스 조이스
의 소설 율리시스를 기념하는 ‘블룸스데이’를 비롯해 여러 문화행사를 개최하고 있으며, 아일랜드 문

Ireland has a rich culture in the arts, particularly in writing, music and dance. Four
writers from Ireland have won the Nobel Prize for literature: George Bernard Shaw,
W.B Yeats, Samuel Beckett and Seamus Heaney. Every genre of music has been
represented by Ireland globally, for example Stiff Little Fingers, Westlife, U2,
Cranberries, and Thin Lizzy. There is also of course Enya, Van Morrison, Clannad,
Snow Patrol and many more. Shows like Riverdance and Lord of the Dance
helped bring Irish dancing to a worldwide audience. The Irish film Once is the
most successful non-Korean language film in Korea's cinema history.
IN KOREA:
The Irish Association in Korea have held many arts events, including
Bloomsday (Ulysses) evenings and have also contributed funds

THE IRISH
LANGUAGE
Irish (Gaeilge) was historically spoken
throughout Ireland. English has gradually
replaced Irish over the centuries
(for reasons of commerce primarily) as
the language spoken by most, and today
less than 10 percent of the population
speak Irish as a first language. It
is one of the official languages of the
European Union.
게일어라고도 불리는 아일랜드어는 역사적으
로 아일랜드 전역에서 사용되었습니다. 하지만
지난 몇 세기 동안 (주로 상업적인 이유로) 영
어가 아일랜드어를 대체하기 시작해 현재 아
일랜드어를 모국어로 사용하는 인구는 10%에
불과합니다. 아일랜드어는 유럽연합의 공식 언
어 중 하나입니다.
