UCLA “Big Game” Contest
October 19 – November 23, 2008
One winner will win a 4 pack of tickets to
UCLA vs. USC at the Rose Bowl on December 6, 2008
Grand Prize Rules
1. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. Must be at least 21 years of age and a legal U.S. Citizen
with a valid Social Security Card and reside in Ventura, Los Angeles, or Santa Barbara
Counties, California. Contest begins October 19, 2008 and ends November 23, 2008
(“Sweepstakes Period”). Void where prohibited by law.
2. Employees, agents or advertisers of the Ventura County Star (“Sponsor”), UCLA, University
of Southern California and their families are not eligible to win. Current students and
alumni of UCLA and USC who are not employees of said organizations are eligible to win.
3. TO ENTER: fill out an official entry form that can be found in the Ventura County Star each
day during the Sweepstakes Period. Be sure your name, address and phone number are
complete. Photocopies or mechanically reproduced entities will not be accepted.
Mutilated or illegible entries will be disqualified. All entries must be hand written and mailed
to “UCLA Big Game Contest” c/o the Ventura County Star; P.O. Box 6007; Camarillo, CA
93011. All entries must be postmarked no later than November 24, 2008 and received by
November 27, 2008. The Ventura County Star is not responsible for lost or misdirected
mail. You may also deposit your entry at the Ventura County Star office located at 550
Camarillo Center Drive, Camarillo, CA 93010 prior to 4:00 pm on November 24, 2008. All
entries become the property of the Ventura County Star.
4. ALTERNATE MEANS OF ENTERING: You may enter the “UCLA Big Game Contest” by
hand printing “UCLA Big Game Contest” in block letters, on a postcard with your name,
address, phone number and e-mail address and mail it to “UCLA Big Game Contest” c/o
Ventura County Star; P.O. Box 6007; Camarillo, CA 93011. All entries must be postmarked
no later than November 24, 2008 and received by November 27, 2008. The Star is not
responsible for entries delayed or lost in the mail.
5. Winners will be selected by random drawing on or about November 28, 2008 from all
eligible entries received. Winners’ names will be announced on or about December 12,
2008.
6. Notification of winner(s) and details of prize redemption will be by United States mail, email
or telephone contact. In the event contact cannot be made within 48 hours of drawing, a
new entry will be drawn at random.
7. Prize(s) are not transferable and cannot be redeemed for cash. NO SUBSTITUTION IN
LIEU OF PRIZE unless at the sole discretion of Sponsor.
8. Taxes, including federal, state, and local, and all other fees, if any, are the responsibility of
the winner(s).

9. Winner(s)’ acceptance of the prize gives the Ventura County Star the right to use the
names and photographs of the winners for promotional purposes without further
compensation. The winners’ names will be published in the Ventura County Star.
10. By entering the sweepstakes, each entrant accepts and agrees to be bound by the
sweepstakes rules and the decision of the judges, which shall be final. The odds of
winning depend on the number of eligible entries received.
11. All entries received with an e-mail address will automatically receive the following free
monthly e-newsletters via e-mail from VenturaCountyStar.com; Crave, Vino!, Back9 and
Love My Ride. Entrants may opt-out of receiving the e-newsletters by checking the “No,
thanks” box on the official entry form or by including “No e-newsletters” on the mailed
postcard. Recipients of the e-newsletters may also opt-out at anytime after sign up by
clicking on the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of each e-newsletter.
12. On or about November 28, 2008, one (1) Grand Prize winner will be chosen by random
drawing from all eligible entries received. Grand Prize winner will receive four (4) tickets to
the UCLA vs. USC football game to be played on December 6, 2008 at the Rose Bowl in
Pasadena, CA. Ticket seat selection will be at the sole discretion of Sponsor. Approximate
retail value of (4) tickets is $360. Parking, souvenirs, food and beverages, personal items
and all other expenses not listed above are not included. Transportation to Pasadena is
not included.
Upon acceptance of the prize, the winner will be required to sign an Affidavit of Eligibility
and Release of Liability Form which must be returned prior to receiving the prize. Failure to
sign and return the affidavit of eligibility and release will result in forfeiture of the prize and
Sponsor will award it to an alternate winner chosen by random drawing. By entering the
Sweepstakes, winner agrees to waive any and all claims against the E.W. Scripps
Company d/b/a Ventura County Star, UCLA, University of Southern California, their
respective parent corporations, subsidiaries affiliates, officers, directors, employees,
agents, and representatives for personal injury or loss that may occur from the participation
in this Sweepstakes or from the receipt or use of any prize.
13. E.W. Scripps Company d/b/a Ventura County Star, UCLA, University of Southern
California, their respective parent corporations, subsidiaries, affiliates, officers, directors,
employees, agents and representatives are not responsible for printing or typographical
errors in any Sweepstakes-related materials; stolen, late, lost, garbled, delayed,
misdirected, damaged, incomplete, postage due or illegible entries. If, in the Ventura
County Star’s exclusive judgment, this Sweepstakes becomes compromised in any way,
E.W. Scripps Company d/b/a Ventura County Star reserves the right to withdraw the
Sweepstakes offer, cancel any method of entry, void any entries submitted fraudulently, or
select winners from all eligible entries received prior to the act that compromised the
Sweepstakes.
