The year 2014 was hardly any different from the previous years in terms of what
we managed to pursue and what our modest effort has so far yielded. The stark
reality however is becoming more compelling and dynamic. The needs of
suffering Filipinos continue to swell, the deviation of climate norms is becoming more unpredictable,
and the consequences are becoming more staggering and unbearable to imagine. Many times we were
tempted to ask: what is really happening to mankind?
Across the globe, there is misery and pain everywhere. The world is clutching from the claws of
terrorism and the vestiges of armed conflict in all its ugly forms. The threat of modern warfare and the
senseless prescriptions for genocide are taking place in alarming proportions. The collateral damage is
becoming more widespread and devoid of any rhyme and reason. In Africa, Pakistan, the Balkans and
the Middle East - this is becoming a way of life. Media must be having a grand time heralding all those
events, but they too are grieving with their own share of horrible experiences. Is the lust for blood
changing the complexion of our passion for the good life?
Alongside the scary images of armed conflict are the havocs of nature and environmental degradation.
The devastations from wind, fire and water are changing the normal course of climactic conditions and
making life more miserable in an unprecedented manner. The fears and frustrations taking place may
have been sending chills about “Noah’s Ark” and Divine Intervention. Thank God, there are
humanitarian agencies and charitable institutions – large and modest – coming to the rescue and
struggling to provide sweeping relief.
In the face of the world’s traumatic circumstances draining our energy, what have I learned from our
experiences with UWPI? Maybe life is full of challenges but it has no room for surrender because God
will take care of what we cannot handle. Those who will nurture their faith in their Creator will remain
blessed and vibrant with hope. As long as there are good samaritans and generous individuals willing to
share their blessings with the least of their brethrens, we are inclined to believe that “Noah’s Ark” will
not be reenacted and Divine Intervention will lift our morale if there would be any. The problems
confronting our world may have surfaced in varying shapes and sizes, but the solution remains the same
formula rooted in our biblical origin promulgated through Moses. Or to condense it in the words of
Pope Francis: “Mercy and Compassion”.
At the new UWPI, we are adopting this as our inspirational motto. Its loyal, grateful Board and staff;
the collective effort of Donors and Volunteers sustain the UWPI spirit of unity and continuity.
All these and more have been the propelling force that kept UWPI consistent in conducting
humanitarian and civic activities in 2014.
I am sure that those who will take over shall continuously install a donor-friendly system to tap GOOD
SAMARITANS --- YOU can break the ice this 2015 and your benevolence would become more
relevant by supporting the 45-year-old UWPI !

Who we are
UNDYING WISHES OF PINOYS, INC. (UWPI) was formerly the Community Chests and Councils of the
Philippines founded on 5 May 1970 and later changed to United Way Philippines, Inc. on 9 December 1977
as an affiliate of United Way International based in Alexandria, Virginia, USA (now United Way
Worldwide). On 15 June 2012, it became the Undying Wishes of Pinoys, Inc.
It is an independent, non-sectarian, non-political, not-for-profit, non-stock, humanitarian organization
committed to care for others. It generates support for social welfare and community-based projects through
fund campaign and donor agency linkages. ormerly the Community Chests and Councils of th

Its VISION is to be one of the leading organizations in empowering people to care for people and their
communities.
Its MISSION is to effectively mobilize resources for the welfare of the Filipino family in the
marginalized sector of society.
Its OBJECTIVES are: 1) to establish strategic partnerships with other agencies, corporations and
institutions with the same goal of empowering people to care for others and 2) to conceptualize, develop
and implement effective resource management, fund campaigns, programs and services consistent with
the organization’s vision and mission.

UWPI raises funds for its programs and services from individuals, business operations, civic
organizations and educational institutions. The funds generated are in the form of membership fees,
donations, grants and proceeds from special fund raising activities. Funding for community-based
development projects are generated thru linkages with private funding institutions, government and
non-government agencies.
Funds received by any UWPI
employee or representative of
whatever capacity in the
organization are considered
funds of UWPI.
UWPI is registered as an
auxiliary or resource agency
with the Department of Social
Welfare and Development

Hospital, East Avenue Medical Center,
Philippine Children’s Medical Center and St.
