PRESIDENT MESSAGE
The year 2015 was faced with numerous life-changing events that affected
the course of our lives and strenghthened our commitment to be responsive
to the needs of our less fortunate fellow Filipinos.
To start with, our medical missions in three different communities this year
hopefully made an impact in meeting the health needs of the indigents in these areas. We
distributed medicines, food, clothes, toiletries, cash and other gifts to the abandoned street
children, the typhoon survivors, the less fortunate school children, the elders neglected by their
families and to as many other marginalized sectors of our society as we can reach.
With the active cooperation and support of our donors, benefactors, members and supporters,
UWPI has sustained its flagship project, the 17-year-old Munting Panaginip health care
program. However, we continue to seek additional sponsors to serve the growing numbers of
applicants who are truly in dire need of medical assistance.
In the area of membership, UWPI has gained more patrons but lost quite a number of its
institutional and sustaining members. From a record low of eighty-five (85) lifetime members in
2000, it has now grown to a high of one hundred fifty-five (155).
We would have wanted to do more, but we were met with constraints and obstacles which we
faced with a humbling and cleansing effect. Despite these, we will remain a partner of the
government because we, in the private sector, recognize our stake in the development of our
country and our people.
In all humility, we still consider our accomplishments in 2015 as significant on account of the
collaborative and full-hearted support of the Board of Directors, the officers, the staff and the
volunteers. It was their dedication and adherence to social responsibility that propelled the
organization to continue its task despite the odds.
But foremost, it was our partnerships with other entities that galvanized us into fulfilling our
mission. Our sincerest gratitude specifically to the members of the 161 st Search and Rescue
Squadron of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary for their invaluable assistance in our medical
missions; to Willore Pharma Corporation for their significant donation of medicines for our
outreach programs; and to a group of Christians that has continuously organized gift-giving
events for Munting Panaginip children over the past three years. And to all our other supporters,
a profusion of thanks to all of you.
Indeed, happiness is found in giving so I pray that we will never get tired of giving.
M A R Y L O U E. R OSA L, M D
President
Dear Stakeholders,
OPEN LETTER TO STAKEHOLDERS
Our organization has been in existence for the past 45 years because of the unrelenting
spirit of its officers and directors, the untiring support of its members and donors and
most of all, the unceasing divine guidance of God Almighty. This is the lifeblood of
UWPI.
The men and women behind UWPI have built the organization upon a foundation of
accountability and performance. They set commitments and deliver them within a
timeline. They remain focused on the things they can control. And despite the countless
obstacles on the path to achieving its goals, it has managed to hurdle them by turning
these trials into stepping stones to success.
In keeping with the tradition of open communications, this annual report offers insight
into our broad-‐based efforts to achieve sustainability. Although membership is
continuously dwindling every year, it has somehow managed to keep the ship afloat,
with God as its anchor.
We and steering it to move
on the right track regardless of the bumps we encounter. As we set our sights on 2016,
we aim to maintain our momentum by continuing to demonstrate discipline in how we
use our funds and by executing our plans using the highest standards of compliance and
ethics while keeping in mind the reasons why our organization survives.
In our desire to
to control our emotions as we witness heart-‐wrenching situations in the passing on of
cancer stricken children under our care every so often. This year in a span of one month,
for instance, three of the 20 children under this program said their goodbyes,
unexpectedly. We rest in the comfort of knowing that we played a part in making the
lives of these children less painful in the little way we know how.
To help us achieve maximum performance over the next several years, we will continue
to bear this in mind while in pursuit of excellence in service.
It started in 2013, when UWPI benefactors Aimee
Wallenda, Leirian Pineda and their friends from
here and abroad threw a Christmas gift-‐giving
party for the then 12 sick children under the
Munting Panaginip medical assistance program
and their families.
This year, with Carolyn de Vera Schwartz as head
coordinator, this small group of Christians
solicited more support from more people and
held another party for 21 sick children and their
families at the Fun Ranch in Pasig City on Nov. 18,
2015.
This successful event was made possible through
the concerted effort of selfless volunteers,
generous donors, and friends from such groups as
the Global Filipino Restaurateur and Hotelier
Association, Inc., led by Chef Ronnie Ramirez, that
prepared lunch and snacks for all the participants;
the Christian Commission Fellowship, whose
.
dolor
volunteers acted as ushers, manned the registration
table and led the prayer groups; the Kiwanis Club of
Quezon City Sampaguita Team; Quezon City
Sampaguita Jaycees; and the Arts Media Sports
Ministry of Metro Manila Christian Church.
All the children were entertained and amused with a
storytelling session by Teacher Dyali P. Justo, song
numbers, clowns with balloon and magic tricks, free
rides, and received lots of gift bags and Christmas
presents.
UWPI was represented by Dr. Marylou E. Rosal,
president; Corazon N. Cano, vice president; Marilou
G. Valbuena, secretary; Grace L. Villanueva,
auditor/compliance officer; Dr. Grace S. Navea,
director; UWPI staff and guests.
All the children beneficiaries were present with their
families, including a non-‐beneficiary, seven-‐year-‐old
Reese Hernandez Tuico, afflicted with lymphangioma
hemangioma, who came with her father Ronald.
