Food Pantry News...
The needs of the hungry are many. In addition to trying to secure food, they often struggle
to pay utility bills, vehicle expenses, medical bills and more. Thanks for helping ease their
burden by providing food twice each month.
We are thankful for our partnership with the Northern Illinois Food Bank (NIFB), a nonprofit
organization that engages the community in a commitment to feed the hungry. Food manufacturers,
local grocers, corporations, foundations and individuals from 13 counties donate foods and fund, inspect and
repack food for distribution to more than 600 helping organizations - food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters,
and youth/senior helping programs. Over 60,000 people are served by these programs each week.
While we could not function without the NIFB, we also could not function without the generous support of
our St. Peter family. It is your financial contributions that allow us to purchase food from the NIFB and your
donations of food, hygiene and household items that help us stock our shelves with the ‘extras’ that are not
available from the food bank.
Every few months, we try to collect enough detergent to share with each of our pantry families. December is
one of those months. Please consider a donation of detergent in December. It is a much-needed, high-cost
item for people who are already struggling. Please consider donating some detergent to the pantry this
month. Thank you!
Christmas Gift Idea…..Are you searching for a gift for that hard-to-buy-for person on your list? Consider
making a donation to the Food Pantry in their name. You can pick up a card at the parish office, which you
can give to let them know that you have made a donation in their name. It is a thoughtful gift that gives!
“And people were bringing children to Him that He might touch them, but the disciples rebuked
them. When Jesus saw this, He became indignant and said to them, ‘Let the children come to
me; do not prevent them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Amen, I say to you,
whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it.’
Then he embraced them, placing his hands on them.” -Mark 10:13-16
We are thankful for the children of St. Peter School, who recently showed their support of the
pantry’s efforts to feed the hungry among us. Students from Little Flowers, Challenge Girls
Club and Cub Scouts Pack 136 dressed up in costume and went trick-or-treating for food
donations. The students enjoyed themselves as they raised awareness for the pantry, while
securing food assistance.
We also thank the students and families of St. Peter, Williamsburg and Western Avenue
Schools for their recent donations of Market Day pies. Students from these schools placed
orders for pies that will be distributed to our clients over the holidays. We look forward to
seeing the smiles on our clients’ faces as they receive their delicious pies!
Thank you, students, for your kindness!

Finances & Fundraising
‘Tis The Season…Tax preparation season, that is
Question: Will the parish automatically mail a financial contribution statement for 2012?
Answer: No, due to the cost involved in mailing a statement to every contributing household, we only mail
statements to members who have made a one-time gift of $200 or more at any time throughout the year. This
is not a TOTAL contribution of $200 or more, but a single donation of $200 or more. If you make your
payments in smaller increments throughout the year and have not given a donation at any time that was for
$200 or more, you WILL NOT be sent a statement, unless you specifically request it.
Question: How do I request a statement?
Answer: There are two ways to get your statement. The first is to fill out and return the form below and you
will receive a copy of your statement in the mail. The second is to send an email to
database@stpetergeneva.org from the email address you wish to receive your statement. It will be sent in
a .pdf format as an attachment/reply to your message.
Question: Where do we return this form?
Answer: You may put your completed form in the collection basket at Mass. Please do NOT put the form in
your contribution envelope as it could be missed when the envelopes are opened. It is not necessary to put the
form in an envelope of any kind, simply drop the loose form into the collection basket. You may also drop it
off at the parish center.
Question: How soon should we return the form or send the email request?
Answer: Anytime before the end of January 2013 but if you do it now, you won’t have to worry about
remembering as we get into the busy holiday season.
Question: When will we get our statement?
Answer: Statements will be in the mail or email by January 31, 2013 at the latest. We will work very hard to
get them out sooner, but we must wait for contribution data from the Diocese so that we can include it in the
statements as well.
IMPORTANT REMINDER: In recent years, tax laws relating to end-of-year giving have been
revised. If you want a donation credited to 2012, please get it to the parish office no later than
Friday, Dec. 28. If we receive it after that date, it may not be credited to 2012.
PLEASE MAIL OUR 2012 RECORD OF FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTIONS
NAME: ________________________________________________________________________
ADDRESS: _____________________________________________________________________
Please print clearly and return form to collection basket at Mass or to the parish center.

High School Youth Ministry
The ROCK Team recently participated in SOS (Sleep Out
Saturday) in an effort to raise awareness about homelessness.
Participants attended a rally in Glen Ellyn where formerly homeless
families presented their testimonials of how they became homeless.
A single mom with four young children shared how she ended up
homeless after fleeing from an abusive marriage. When a Fortune
500 employee fell upon hard times, his family of five swapped a life
of luxury for a life of homelessness. With the help of Bridge
Communities and lots of faith and humility, both families were able
to get back on their feet and provide for the needs of their families.
Following the rally, The ROCK Team headed over to St. Thomas
the Apostle in Naperville to take part in various educational
activities that simulated the homeless experience. As the evening
wore on, students noted that dinner was conspicuously absent. Not
knowing when their next meal would be served, students accepted
that they would go to bed hungry.
Around 11:30 pm, they were invited to a ‘soup kitchen’ to share a
light meal of soup and crackers or bread. Standing outside in the
cool damp air as they waited to be served provided a small glimpse
of what the homeless go through to secure a meal. While the rain
stayed away and the overnight temperatures remained in the high
30s, sleep was hard to come by because of the uncomfortable
sleeping conditions with 4-5 people crammed into each of the
vehicles. This event definitely opened their eyes to the many, many
difficulties associated with being homeless.
YOUTH MASS next Sunday, Dec. 2, at 5 p.m., followed by a
High School Event run FOR youth, BY youth (see below!)
The Advent Season can be a great time to go deeper
in your faith. Beginning on Sunday, Dec. 2,
the PEER MINISTRY TEAM will host a 4-week
VIDEO SMALL GROUP SERIES that will capture the
attention of any high school screenager out there!
Part 1. Prepare the Way - Sunday, Dec. 2 (6-8 p.m. in the MPR & Teen Center)
The Advent season can be a powerful time of spiritual “anticipation.” Tonight we will focus on how to get
the most out of this special season! We’ll begin with holiday games in the MPR, following by launching the
Advent series in the Teen Center afterward (with snacks, of course!)
The dates of the next sessions are to be announced next week, but even if you can’t make all of them, you are sure
to grow from making any ONE of them! The sessions will focus on Trusting God, Watching, Praying, and the Gift!
No RSVP needed. Just look at the email blasts, our FB page (“like” us at St. Peter High School
Youth Ministry - Geneva, IL ) and COME!
