Campaign, the Ministry of Petroleum
& Natural Gas has unveiled a 24X7 web
based application at www.mylpg.in to
provide LPG consumers, an integrated
solution for carrying out all services
related to supply of cooking gas from the
comfort of their home. This portal offers
several services to LPG consumers across
the three Public Sector Oil Marketing
Companies i.e. Indian Oil Corporation
Ltd, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd
and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation
Ltd. and their distributors. These services
include registration for new connections,
refill booking, track delivery status, rate
your distributor, change your distributors,
surrender your connection and give
up LPG subsidy. The portal empowers
consumers by bringing complete
transparency in LPG related information.
The site is already a huge success with 44
million hits from 3.4 million consumers in
a spam of two months.
The direct benefit of subsidy will cover 15
crore LPG consumers and is the largest
direct cash transfer scheme in the world.
Under this section, LPG will be sold
to consumers at the market rate while
the subsidy will be directly credited to
their bank accounts as per entitlement.
Direct transfer of subsidy will reduce the

diversion of subsidized LPG cylinders to
the commercial and industrial sectors. The
scheme is expected to generate significant
savings and bring down the annual LPG
subsidy bill.
In 2015-16 Budget estimates, petroleum
subsidy has been halved to Rs 30,000
crore, from estimated Rs 60,270 crore
in the current fiscal. Of Rs 30,000 crore
for next fiscal, Rs 22,000 crore has been
earmarked for LPG subsidy and the rest is
for kerosene.
Government expects that about one
crore well off consumers will surrender
the subsidy on cooking gas after Prime
Minister Narendra Modi's appeal to people
not to take subsidy if they can afford to buy
LPG at market price. There are about 15.3
crore LPG consumers in the country.
Modi in his address to a global energy
conference recently said that as many as
2.8 lakh people have surrendered LPG
subsidy which has led to savings of Rs 100
crore.

Public sector oil marketing companies
(OMCs) have given an option to existing
LPG consumers to convert their existing
domestic LPG connection into a nonsubsidised
domestic connection. This can
be done by submitting a written request to
the distributor or electronically via www.
MyLPG.in.
Giving up subsidised LPG will help cut the
government's subsidy bill.
