Car Fires
•Stop the vehicle in a safe place
•Hand Brake on
•Turn Ignition off
•If a manual car, leave in Gear
•If an Automatic, leave in ‘P’
•Get out of the car
If you have an extinguisher:
•Release bonnet to safety catch
•Discharge extinguisher through the gap
•Do not fully open bonnet for at least 30 minutes
•Do not touch any burnt rubber parts
Extinguishers and Escape Routes
• Extinguishers should be conspicuous and readily accessible
• At least one should be near exit routes
• Only tackle fires in their very early stages
• Never let a fire get between you and your way out
• If in doubt, get out
• Leave building by most direct route possible
• Close windows and doors to stop spread of smoke, fire and heat
• Go immediately to your assembly point
Emergency Lighting
PURPOSE: To indicate route of exit
LOCATION: Shop Floors, Staircases, Landings, Corridors, Doorways and External Escape
Routes
DURATION: 3 hours
Tested: monthly, 6 monthly, annually
KEEP RECORDS of all tests & maintenance
