of an established project.
The Trustees welcome applications for the following types of project:
Projects which provide a focus for skills development and confidence building through the medium
of sport
Projects that have a strong training and/or educational theme within the sporting activity
Projects that provide sporting equipment or facilities for disabled or disadvantaged people
Projects that help to engage children or young people at risk of crime, truancy or addiction

organisations we fund. We have a small staff team who work hard to provide the support
dealing with complex issues and we try to provide as much advice and support as we can in
addition to donations. We are always happy to answer telephone and e-mail enquiries and to
give pre-application support as appropriate. We will only meet with potential applicants once
we have received an application.
John Merricks Sailing Trust
www.jmst.org.uk
Leading Olympic sailor and 1996 Olympic silver medallist John Merricks died tragically in a car
accident whilst competing in the 1997 Melges 24 European Championships in Italy. John was an
example to all through his exceptional skill and down to earth good nature. The John Merricks Sailing
Trust has been set up by those closest to John to do some good in his name and further the memory
of such a remarkable person
The objectives of the Trust are to advance the education and physical and mental development of
young people in need (under the age of 25 years) with a view to promoting the achievement of their
potential through the sport of sailing.
If you, your sailing club, recognized teaching establishment or community group feel that the Trust
could help fund or part-fund a worthwhile project please contact the John Merricks Sailing Trust.
Eric Twiname Sailing Trust
http://erictwinametrust.org
The objects of the Trust are to assist in the organisation and provision of facilities which will enable
and encourage young people in full time education at schools or universities in the United Kingdom
to sail or race. One of the Trust’s aid criteria is that as many people as possible should benefit from
a donation. In following its objectives the Trust provides much needed money for deserving causes,
helping young sailors who might otherwise be unable to fulfil their ambitions – whether it be
assisting clubs to purchase boats, or providing the means to assist in the organisation of an event.
Any group may apply for aid. The Trust is very approachable – an e-mail or a simple handwritten
letter is usually all that is required – although further information about the project may be
requested.
