We own and manage land, investments and a
charitable fund for St John’s Academy. These assets
are derived from donations and endowments,
some dating back hundreds of years. The Trust
Fund exists for the exclusive benefit of St John's, its
students and their education in the community of
Marlborough.
The Trust operates independently of St John's. Its
purpose is to manage and provide funds for major
Academy developments & educational projects which
are not normally provided by public funding or
Academy budgets.

Trust activity to date
Perhaps the most significant
assistance in recent times relates
to the new single‐site school
project. The Trust owned the
land on which the old Stedman
building stood. It agreed to swap
this land for an equal plot upon
which a new school could be
built. This enabled St John’s to
sell part of the Stedman site to
help fund the new single‐site
development. The Trust now
owns the land on which the new
Academy stands and it also owns
the new buildings, both of which
are leased to the Academy.
The Trust made a substantial
repayable grant to enable St
John’s to start building and
which has now been fully repaid
by St John’s.
More recently a further
£200,000 repayable grant has
enabled St John's to build the
tennis courts.
In addition non‐repayable grants
have been given for smaller
projects, such as assistance
towards equipping the new
library (see below).
The Trust leases land at
Stonebridge Lane to ARK (Action
for the River Kennet) for a
riverbank development with
community and educational
benefit (see photo).

St John’s Academy, comments as
follows:
“Over many years the St John’s
Foundation Trust has supported
the school, now Academy. Many
hundreds of individual students
have been able to participate in
visits, exchanges and
educational programmes
through the direct financial
support of the Trust. These visits
have been local but also
international including several
European destinations, the USA,
China, Kenya and The Gambia.
The Trust’s involvement has
enabled additional resources for
education to be made available.
In 1998 they were a major
sponsor for our first specialist
status in Technology; this
investment led to triple
specialist college status and to
St John’s becoming one of the
national leaders in Science,
Maths, ICT and Technology in
terms of results at GCSE and
IB/A level. In recent years
significant levels of financial
support for the new school has
helped St John’s become a first
class educational facility with
results to match”.
Adjacent to the riverbank, the
Trust also leases land to
Marlborough Town Council for
allotments.

Future developments
We have just set up a Youth
Trust to work proactively with St
John's students to provide
additional learning and personal
development opportunities,
inspiration and work experience.
The Trust will support the visit
of two St John's teachers to The
Gambia with the Marlborough
Brandt Group this autumn where
they will scope out the inclusion
of St John's students in future
international development
activities and learning.
