The Relationship between Professional Collaboration and Treatment Outcomes<br />
This presentation will provide both prosthodontic and periodontal perspectives regarding the benefits that<br />
professionals and patients can obtain when there is a team approach to treatment. A wide array of patient<br />
treatments will be used to illustrate how immediate and long-term treatment results can be enhanced<br />
through interdisciplinary treatment planning and treatment. The management of challenging situations and<br />
complications will be included in the presentation.<br />
Learning Objectives:<br />
1. Identify the benefits that interdisciplinary care has upon the knowledge and understanding of the professionals<br />
involved in collaborative patient care.<br />
2. Describe the benefits patients can derive from professional collaboration.<br />
3. See how treatment methods and clinical techniques have been used to improve treatment outcomes.<br />
4. Understand how complications can be managed through periodontal and prosthodontic collaboration.<br />
Biography:<br />
Dr. Goodacre received his DDS degree from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry in 1971. He completed<br />
a three year combined program in Prosthodontics and Dental Materials at Indiana University School<br />
of Dentistry and in 1974 earned his MSD degree. He served as Chair of the Department of Prosthodontics<br />
at Indiana University and from 1994 to 2013 served as Dean of the Loma Linda University School of Dentistry.<br />
He currently teaches in the Advanced Education Program in Prosthodontics at Loma Linda University<br />
School of Dentistry.<br />
He has received several awards such as Educator of the Year, Distinguished Lecturer, and Distinguished<br />
Service Award from the American College of Prosthodontists; the George Moulton Award from the American<br />
Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics, the William J. Gies Award from the American Dental Education<br />
Association; Honorary Fellowship in the Faculty of Dentistry of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland;<br />
the Golden Medallion Award from the American Prosthodontic Society; the Distinguished Service Award<br />
from the Academy of Prosthodontics; the Jerome and Dorothy Schweitzer Research Award and also the<br />
Distinguished Lecturer Award from the Greater New York Academy of Prosthodontics. He is a Diplomate of<br />
the American Board of Prosthodontics, Past-President of the American Board of Prosthodontics, Past-President<br />
of the American College of Prosthodontists, and Past President of the Academy of Prosthodontics.<br />
