RESearch in medical education<br />
Monday 6 th – Friday 10 th January 2014<br />
The aim <strong>of</strong> this module is to introduce participants to mixed methods,<br />
qualitative and quantitative research in medical education, including<br />
generic issues such as ethics, use <strong>of</strong> theory and quality in research. This<br />
module will build on basic scholarship principles learned across previous<br />
core and optional modules for the Certificate/Diploma and prepare<br />
students for independent medical education research as part <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Masters. Core module at Masters level. (Closing date: 4 October 2013)<br />
curriculum planning<br />
Monday 27 th – Friday 31 st January 2014<br />
This module provides you with theoretical and empirical bases for<br />
planning and designing curricula for smaller educational units such as<br />
modules or courses (e.g. a workshop, a module for undergraduates,<br />
final year clinical rotations), or larger programmes (e.g. undergraduate<br />
programmes/postgraduate training programmes). Therefore, it will be<br />
helpful for health pr<strong>of</strong>essional educators who are involved in course<br />
development at various levels. You do not need to have previous<br />
knowledge or experience in curriculum development to take part in this<br />
module. Core module at Diploma level. (Closing date: 25 October 2013)<br />
Assessing Knowledge, skills & attitudes<br />
Monday 24 th – Friday 28 th February 2014<br />
This module will introduce you to a range <strong>of</strong> methods that are available<br />
for assessment <strong>of</strong> Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes. As well as describing<br />
these instruments and showing how they may be used effectively the<br />
module will look at key issues relating to validity and reliability. At<br />
the end <strong>of</strong> this module you should be able to choose an appropriate<br />
assessment method which takes account <strong>of</strong> what it is your students are<br />
expected to have learnt and also why they have learned it.<br />

e-Learning<br />
Monday 17 th – Friday 21 st March 2014<br />
In this module students critically reflect on eLearning situated in<br />
a variety <strong>of</strong> contexts and from various stakeholders’ viewpoints.<br />
Legalities and ethics are introduced, with case studies presented on<br />
social networking and discussion boards. Students are introduced to<br />
a variety <strong>of</strong> eLearning tools, and study the design processes, including<br />
pedagogical underpinning, encouraging stakeholder engagement and<br />
evaluation. (Closing date: 13 December 2013)<br />
