HIGHLIGHTS:
Don Finnie of Vanderhoof is
currently on a 23-game point
scoring streak, longest in the
CHL this season. He has scored
18 goals and added 19 assists
for 37 points in that con
Tlie Quesnel Kangaroos ended
its league schedule in
third spot. Tlie 'Roos split the
action in the northern towns in
losing to the Vanderhoof Bears
4-2 and rebounding back with
a '6-5 nipper over the Mohawks
of Prince George.
The Saturday evening contest
was one that is hard to explain.
Some how the Bears out
scored the locals with having
eight penalties to the 'Roos
two.
Quesnel opened the game
early in the first period with
a marker from Max Helzel.
Vanderhoof retained in the
last five minutes of the period
to take a 2-1 lead after the
first frame.
The Bears goal getters
were Therrian and Striggler
putting the disc by Panagrot.
The second frame saw the
Bears pick up another goal to
set the pace for the win.
Leroy Watt tipped in a shot
from Campbell which proved to
be the only marker of the
period.
Jim Pilla, Bob Johnston
and Wally Fluery each have 4
game winning goals this season,
tops in the League. Trent
Beatty has 6 game winning assists
to lead that department.
Bob Johnson potted a lone
goal late in the third stanza
in a losing effort as Campbell
had given the Bears a
4-1 lead before Johnson came
up with the tally.
The 'Roos walked into the
Prince George Arena still suffering
from their previous
nights defeat and it wasn't
until the third period that
the Kangaroos turned on the
pressure.
The Mohawks had been
stomped by the Stampeders the
night before and the Kangaroos
pulled the game out of the bag
coming up with a narrow 6-5
win.
Tlie Mohawks came out of
the first period with a comfortable
3-1 lead. It looked as
if the 'Roos were going to hit
the ice again for the second
time.
Wally Pruden buried the
disc deep in the twine with a
slap shot from the point. For
the 'Hawks Bert, Allercott and
Norm Kjemhus had 7 Power
Play Goals and Bill Allercott
has 9 Power Play Assists, tops
in that category.
Weekend
McCusker blinked the light.
Tlie second frame proved
worthless .for the Kangaroos
as they allowed one goal to
be set up. Garrand picked up
a rebound and neatly tucked
it in behind Panagrot.
What coach Ramsden told
the 'Roos during the intermission
of the second andthird
period, no one knows but the
Kangaroos sprang for five
goals before the 'Hawks
got unwound.
Herb Greyeyes exploded
for a pair of goals while
singles were notched by Don
Bush, Bob Johnson and Jim
Pilla. Allercott netted the only
other Mohawk marker of the
game.
Playoffs will get underway
this week end with a four out
of seven semi-finals with the
first games being played at
the first and second place
finishers arenas. The finals
will also be a best of seven
playoffs.
The MacMillen rink of Williams Lake copped the CKCQ award in the 10th Ladies'
The Cariboo Hotel Diehards
week with their fine 3185 effort
two spot of the Tuesday
evening league race.
Doreen Lupulack scored the
hi three with a fabulous 899
to take the limelight in the ladies'
division of the Quesnel
also took the hi single of the
rolled a 675 Friday evening.
The Rex Billards team took
the hi singled team in the Mon-
not one of the best games the
locals have played as they
trounced the same team earlier
this season by 25 points.
It was not that the College
were just not up to par.
The Spartans sank only 35% of
the balls shot.
