Postal authorities at Ottawa
are asking for new tenders
for the R.F.D. service on
a three-times-a-week basis.
Formerly the mail "left Que.snel
twice a week.
At Ottawa George M. Murray,
M.P,. for Cariboo, said
that the new service could be
held back oWing to the coldwar
tightening purse strings
for everything but defence.
On the other hand he said
that he hoped that the call for
tenders would precede enlargement
and extension of
the services of R.F.D. in the
Quesnel area,
MURRAY TELLS OF CARIBOO MIMERALS
GEO. M. MURRAY, M.P.,
Cariboo, stated in the
House of Commons that the
Cariboo District possessed
wide deposits of war minerals
which are desperately
needed for Canadian defence
industries.
As reported in Hansard,
February 19, the member for
Cariboo said in part as follows:
' •
"Mr. Speaker: I was very
much impressed the other
day by the address of the
Minister of Trade and Commerce.
In referring to the alarms
of war that we are
hearing he stated that we are
short of certain strategic metals.
He said-we needed cobalt,
molybdenum, antimony,
tungsten, chromium, magnes
ium, cinnabar, titannium and
manganese.^
- "In my own riding of Cariboo
are ample supplies of
many of these strategic metals.
The old-t'mers knew
where there was manganese
The Valent'ne Dance held
"in Windt's Hall on Saturday,
February 17, was an enjoyable
affair. There wasn't a big
crowd but those who attended
had a splendid time. Mrs.
Bill Broughton won the door
prize, and Joe Macalister was
the lucky, ticket holder in the
raffle.
The;, school children have
statred school again, most of
, them are back to norrnal a-;
gain, as far as the cbughingis
concerned.
The canasta and whist
drive held at Henry Moffat's,
and sponsored by the A.W.I,
last Satvirday night was well
attended. A nice sum of money
was realized.
and we lost track of the dis- by the hon. member for Carcovei'ies
time to time in the Cariboo,, ing to bridge that gap be
