PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Oratory Schools’ Extended
Day Program is an extension of the
academic school day for those
students (ages three and older) who
require additional services after the
customary school hours. The program
benefits the families and schools, while
promoting the educational growth and
development of the students. This
program operates only on dates when
school is in session, and is closed on
early release days.

Guidelines, Rules, & Regulations
Program Facilitator and extended day
staff:
a. are trained in CPR, First Aid,
AED, and EPI pen.
b. must include a minimum of two
staff on duty (may include Director of
Schools).
c. maintain the adult staff to
student ration (1/18) and will
supervise the students at all times.
d. keep Emergency Contact Cards
updated and on file. Only those
listed on the emergency card are
permitted to fetch a child.
e. have the person fetching the
student sign the Extended Day
Attendance Binder indicating the
time of pick-up.
MISSION
The Mission of the Oratory Schools is to
promote the formation of Christian
character, Catholic lay leadership,
Christian fellowship, and community
service by integrating the gospel message
with a liberal arts educational program in
the spirit of the joy exemplified by its
founder, Saint Philip Neri.

first time if he/she is unknown to the
Extended Day staff.
g. must comply with all federal,
state, county, and municipal health
and safety laws. Safety drills are
held regularly to acquaint the
children with safety measures to be
followed in case of fire, hurricane, or
other emergency situation.

computer, rest,
snack, etc.
DISCIPLINE
The Extended
Day Program is
an extension of
the Oratory
Schools and the
same Code of
Conduct will be
reinforced. Only children 6+ years are
permitted to go to the bathroom alone.
Parents will be notified of any
misbehavior. All children must follow
the program rules and respect the staff
and other children, as well as keep
their space clean and free of trash and
clutter. If a child shows unacceptable
behavior, he/she may be excluded from
activities or withdrawn from the
program, should the Extended Day
Director, in conjunction with the
Director of Schools, deem it necessary.
LATE FETCHING
The fee is $1.00/minute late.
Habitual late fetching may result in
termination of services.

Medication: The extended day staff does not
administer medication. Prescribed medication may be
given by the school nurse before the Extended Day
Program upon receiving a signed request in writing
from the parent/legal guardian.
EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
In case of an emergency, the parent/guardian will be
contacted at home or work. If the parent/guardian cannot
be reached, emergency contacts indicated by the parent
on the Emergency Card will be contacted immediately. In
case of a major disaster/crisis in which the building may
need to be evacuated, the students will be transported to
St. Jude Thaddeus Church, 505 S. Ironwood, Pharr, Texas.

3:35 - 4:00 Arrival from classroom to assigned
Extended Day Classroom
4:00 - 4:15 Nutritious Snack (provided by parent)
4:15 - 4:30 Outdoor Play
4:30 - 5:20 Homework, organized games
5:20 - 5:30 Preparation for Fetching and Clean-Up
EXTENDED DAY FEE
The Extended Day Annual Fee is recorded on the
Student Enrollment Contract as an option and may be
added to the monthly tuition payment plan or paid in full.
This service may be terminated by the parent if needed. In
addition, a parent needing extended day services, may
request it at any time during the school year. However, this
cannot be on a drop-in basis. It must include at least one
semester. These arrangements can be made by notifying
the Extended Day Facilitator and paying for the additional
service at the Corporate Office (1407 W. Moore Rd., Pharr,
781.3056 Ext. 606).

The main principle of the Oratory Schools is to take
students out of the darkness and into the
light of knowledge and faith.
School Logo and Mascot
The school logo symbolizes the ideal that we hold
important as Catholics and as members of the Lay
Oratorian community, and the international network of
Oratories throughout the world, which were first
established in the 16th century. Today, the Oratory
schools, seminaries, etc., are in Italy, Spain,
the United States, Mexico, Colombia, England, Switzerland,
Canada, Germany, France, Austria, Poland, Costa Rica, and Chile. The shield, with its blue background and eight
pointed stars, are from St. Philip’s family original coat-of-arms. Another symbol used is an inflamed, enlarged
heart that represents St. Philip’s heart, which was miraculously filled with the Holy Spirit, and consequently was
enlarged. The mascot is the Ocelot and was chosen by the student body for the following reasons: “The ocelot is
a rare species and so is our school and its curriculum. It is considered among the smartest of the cat family, and
our schools produce smart students. In addition, its habitat is here in south Texas and is protected by law.” The
Oratory schools, much like the ocelot, are rare, smart, protected, and native to South Texas.
