Club Gearing Up for Olepex 2006
Club members are preparing for their annual show — Olepex 2006. The event will be
from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 8, at the John Ash Community Center,
112 N. Barry St. in Olean.
Show chair Fred Printz said seven dealers have signed up for the show, which will feature
64 frames of exhibits and a U.S. Postal Service booth. Ronald J. Yeager is bourse chairman.
Our monthly auctions continue to do well, averaging about $40 per month in June and
July. They usually contain around 20 lots.
Arnold Leiter Dies at 76
Arnold (Arnie) Allen Leiter, 76, of Watervliet, owner of
Uncle Sam Stamp & Coin Shop in Watervliet and a longtime
member of the Uncle Sam Stamp Club of Troy, died
August 14 in Stratton Veterans Administration Hospital.
He was born November 5, 1929 in Waynesboro, PA, son of
the late Lewis Richard and Florence Heptrick Leiter. His wife of
47 years, Pauline Lutz Leiter, died on December 28, 2004.
Leiter served in the U.S. Coast Guard for more than
20 years and was honorably discharged in 1968. He had
been keeper of the historic Fire Island Light on Long Island
Sound from March 14, 1957 to December 14, 1959.

After retirement from the service he worked briefly at Gurley Precision Instruments in
Troy and Montgomery Ward in Menands. He founded Uncle Sam Stamp and Coin Shop in
Menands and moved it to its present location in Watervliet after the mall closed. His favorite
hobbies were philately and music appreciation. He was a member of the Uncle Sam Stamp
Club of Troy, Fort Orange Stamp Club, and the American Philatelic Society.
Survivors include two children, Veronica (Kevin) Bleakley of Brunswick and Charles
Leiter of Troy; two grandchildren, Kevin and Francis Bleakley; four brothers and sisters,
Joyce (Donald) Sommer of Maryland, Kenneth (Mildred) Leiter of Virginia, Glenn Leiter
of West Virginia and Harold (Mary) Leiter of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. He
was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Donald, and a sister, Jacqueline.
Burial was in Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuyerville. Donations may be made to
the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Albany, NY 12211 in Leiter’s memory.
