Things to see
and do
Nuremberg boasts a wide range of attractions
A visit to the European Coatings
Show is a wonderful
opportunity to explore one
of the most historic cities
in Germany. Nuremberg
evolved into a craft and trade
centre back in the Middle
Ages and has been attracting
travellers from afar ever
since. Situated in Franconia,
the city is famous for its
impressive medieval town
centre. But it has much more
to offer than a picturesque
town centre that evokes bygone
ages.
In the modern era, the city
is benefiting from its central
location in the European
Economic Area, especially as
the EU expands eastwards.
Nuremberg is one of the fastest-growing
trade fair venues
in Europe. Every year more
Nuremberg's almost thousand years of history are still obvious in its
cityscape
than 1.2 million people attend
some 100 events and about 50
trade fairs and congresses.
So, it is not surprising that
the second-largest city in Bavaria
is well set up to cater to
throngs of visitors. Nuremberg
has an awful lot to offer –
and everything is within easy
reach. The best way to explore
it is on foot. There are numerous
sights, museums and excursions
to the countryside to
keep visitors entertained. The
“old town” is characterised by
its mediaeval buildings and
is surrounded by a city wall 5
km long. The city’s landmark
building is the Imperial Castle,
which boasts richly appointed
imperial rooms, the
Romanesque double chapel,
the deep well and the Sinwell
Tower and an extensive collection
of weapons and equipment,
is open daily. But visi-
