BIOGRAPHY
Dame Evelyn Glennie is one of the world's
most groundbreaking and eclectic
musicians. The first person ever to sustain a
full-time career as a solo percussionist, she
continues to redefine the goals and
expectations of percussion and its
perception in the eyes and ears of the
public. She gives over a hundred
performances a year world-wide, has
commissioned over 170 works for solo
percussion, and has an impressive
discography which includes 28 albums, two of which have won Grammy
Awards, DVDs, books, and mallets. She is a BAFTA winning Film/TV
composer and has released an award winning cinematic film called
Touch the Sound. Evelyn’s hearing deterioration began when she was
twelve years old, and already fascinated with the piano and snare drum.
But “somehow this slight, tawny-haired lady from Scotland turned that
handicap into an advantage, creating and performing powerful music
even though she hears only a fraction of what she plays.”

Other interests include international motivational speaking and designing
jewelry. In 1993 she was awarded an OBE for her services to music, and to
date has received no less than seventy international awards.
