Dyer Enhancement Team 

This volunteer group plans and implements projects and programs that enhance the beauty and quality 

of life within the Town of Dyer. It meets the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 6:00 pm in the Town Council

The society operates a small museum in the lower level of Dyer Town Hall. It meets the 2nd Tuesday 

of the month at 6:00 pm at Town Hall, and the museum is open most days from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm.

The Dyer campus of Saint Margaret 

Mercy Healthcare Center is part of the 

Sisters of St. Francis Health Services

A recent $45 million expansion at Dyer’s 

campus includes a new Medical Surgical 

Telemetry floor, Immediate Care floor, 

Outpatient Center, heliport, and medical 

office building. 

Franciscan Physicians Hospital, a joint 

venture between 85 physicians (primarily 

with the Hammond Clinic) and Sisters of 

St. Francis Health Services, opened in 

Munster in Fall 2007. Formerly the 

Heartland Memorial Hospital, $7 million 

in improvements went into the renovated 

facility. The first of its kind in Northwest 

Indiana, FPH features 55 acute care 

beds, a nine-bed ICU, and eight 

surgical suites.

away, like the Mid-America Reformed Seminary on Dyer’s north side. Other schools in 

Lake County include Indiana University Northwest (Gary), Purdue University Calumet 

(Hammond), Ivy Tech Community College (East Chicago & Gary), and Calumet College 

of St. Joseph (Merrillville & Whiting).

Dyer Parks & Recreation

The Dyer Parks & Recreation Department oversees more than 190 acres of 

parkland within the town limits. This includes small tot lots, big community parks, 

and undeveloped land that functions as green space. The department utilizes Dyer’s 

many recreational facilities to offer a variety of classes to town residents. From 

Kindermusik classes for babies to Co-Rec Volleyball for adults, the programs cater 

to every group. Youth classes include Tae Kwon Do, guitar, pottery, bowling, drawing 

& painting, Wado-Ki Karate, cooking, and ice skating. Adults enjoy many of these 

activities, plus photography, scuba diving, Yoga, and Pilates classes.
