Career Information Sessions cover specifics about your<br />

career program—enrollment deadline dates, costs, financial<br />

aid, program requirements, support services, resources for<br />

students and <strong>Bates</strong> policies and proc<strong>edu</strong>res. Choose your<br />

area of interest and attend the appropriate career <strong>edu</strong>cation<br />

information session below. If you can’t attend a session, contact<br />

a career advisor or the instructor directly to make other<br />

arrangements, or call 253.680.7002.<br />

Paying for <strong>College</strong><br />

Financial Aid<br />

Financial aid is available for eligible students.<br />

Students and their families do not necessarily<br />

need to be considered low-income to qualify for<br />

some kinds of financial aid, but students must<br />

demonstrate financial need to be eligible for<br />

federal assistance.<br />

Even if you’re receiving financial assistance<br />

from agency sources (L&I, VA, DVR,<br />

WorkSource, WorkFirst), you may be eligible<br />

for additional grant aid from state and federal<br />

financial aid sources. We determine eligibility<br />

by comparing the difference between the cost<br />

of attending school and what you and your<br />

family can afford to pay.<br />

Apply Early<br />

Students are encouraged to apply for financial<br />

aid as early as possible since pre-qualification<br />

may take up to eight weeks from your<br />

application submission date. Award of financial<br />

aid notification is by mail and begins in the<br />

month of July.<br />

Eligibility for Financial Aid<br />

A student maybe eligible for financial<br />

aid if he or she is:<br />

• Attending <strong>Bates</strong> to obtain a degree<br />

or certificate<br />

• A U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen<br />

• Making satisfactory progress in a<br />

program of study, as defined by the<br />

institution’s satisfactory progress criteria<br />

• Not in default on any previous<br />

student loans or owing a refund<br />

on any grant<br />

• Registered for the draft with<br />

Selective Service, if required by law<br />

• A high school graduate, a GED<br />

completer, or earn passing scores<br />

on the COMPASS exam<br />

Scholarships<br />

The <strong>Bates</strong> Foundation can help students pay<br />

for their <strong>edu</strong>cation! Scholarship offerings<br />

vary from quarter to quarter, and the <strong>Bates</strong><br />

<strong>Technical</strong> <strong>College</strong> Foundation encourages new<br />

and current students to apply for scholarships<br />

every quarter. Individual awards range from<br />

$<br />

$100 to $1,000 per quarter.<br />
