Courses overview<br />
We are pleased to offer nurs<strong>in</strong>g professionals the<br />
opportunity to cont<strong>in</strong>ue with their studies at either<br />
post-qualify<strong>in</strong>g level or postgraduate level by offer<strong>in</strong>g<br />
various entry and exit po<strong>in</strong>ts to suit your requirements.<br />
The level of study you choose will depend on how you<br />
meet the entry requirements criteria for each of the<br />
courses.<br />
The aim of the course is to provide you with a learn<strong>in</strong>g environment,<br />
which enables you to <strong>in</strong>crease your knowledge of nurs<strong>in</strong>g practice<br />
and to ga<strong>in</strong> an <strong>in</strong>sight <strong>in</strong>to issues that impact on nurs<strong>in</strong>g locally,<br />
nationally and globally.<br />
The teach<strong>in</strong>g team has a wide range of skills, professional<br />
and academic experience. A number of team members have<br />
<strong>in</strong>ternational experience through our collaboration <strong>in</strong> Hong Kong,<br />
where we deliver this course overseas.<br />
We adopt a student centred approach to teach<strong>in</strong>g and learn<strong>in</strong>g that<br />
encourages you to atta<strong>in</strong> your full potential as a lifelong learner.<br />
To facilitate this, a variety of teach<strong>in</strong>g methods are used with<strong>in</strong> the<br />
virtual learn<strong>in</strong>g environment, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g guided study us<strong>in</strong>g learn<strong>in</strong>g<br />
support material, discussion boards and self-directed study.<br />
We offer a very friendly and supportive environment <strong>in</strong> which to<br />
learn and consistently receive very high satisfaction rat<strong>in</strong>gs for our<br />
student support and learn<strong>in</strong>g resources <strong>in</strong> national and university<br />
student surveys.<br />
Key facts...<br />
Both courses start <strong>in</strong> either September (Semester 1)<br />
or January (Semester 2).<br />
Full-time: 12 months.<br />
Part-time: up to 3 years.<br />
The application code for both courses is HC92.<br />
BSc (Hons) Nurs<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Studies</strong><br />
Teach<strong>in</strong>g is delivered via distance learn<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
This course comprises eight modules (seven s<strong>in</strong>gle modules,<br />
<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g two alternative compulsory modules and one double<br />
dissertation module), which are studied at Advanced Level.<br />
S<strong>in</strong>gle modules are worth 15 CATS credits and require 150 hours<br />
of student effort. The double module (dissertation) is worth 30<br />
CATS credits and requires 300 hours of student effort.<br />
MSc Nurs<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Studies</strong><br />
Teach<strong>in</strong>g is delivered via mixed mode or distance learn<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
The <strong>Postgraduate</strong> Certifi cate comprises three s<strong>in</strong>gle modules.<br />
S<strong>in</strong>gle modules are worth 60 CATS credits at M Level and require<br />
200 hours of student effort. The <strong>Postgraduate</strong> Diploma comprises<br />
six modules worth 120 CATS credits.<br />
A full master’s comprises n<strong>in</strong>e modules <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g a triple<br />
dissertation module worth 180 CATS credits.<br />
A triple dissertation module is worth 60 CATS credits at M Level<br />
and requires 600 hours of student effort.<br />
Note: You may be eligible for transferred certifi cated credit, if you<br />
can produce transcripts of equivalent study <strong>in</strong> one or more<br />
modular areas. If you wish to transfer credit, you will be<br />
required to produce transcripts. You are advised to make<br />

If you choose to enrol on the distance learn<strong>in</strong>g course, all your<br />
modules will be delivered electronically us<strong>in</strong>g the <strong>Brookes</strong> Virtual<br />
Gateway Learn<strong>in</strong>g Environment. If you choose to enrol on the<br />
mixed mode course, fi ve modules will be delivered us<strong>in</strong>g a blended<br />
learn<strong>in</strong>g approach <strong>in</strong>volv<strong>in</strong>g attendance at our Marston Road site <strong>in</strong><br />
<strong>Oxford</strong> and two modules will be delivered via distance learn<strong>in</strong>g.
