Welcome to the Land O’Lakes & Guests Second Production Sale. 

Last year’s 1st Sale was very successful and I am excited about the quality of the 

cattle in this, the second sale. 

The Land O’Lakes consignments truly represent the strong genetic base this herd 

has been built around. These cattle have bred in performance and great maternal 

strength. When you evaluate the quality consignments right from their show string, 

you know you are accessing some of their very best - Flush Candidates, Embryos, 

Show Females or Quality Females with a strong set of EPD’s. 

The Guest Consignors have also stepped forward with a stronger and fancier 

offering. Proven producers, promising bred heifers and an exciting set of fancy 

heifer calves are featured. You will like what you see! 

One thing I should emphasize is the quality in the service sires. This sale will 

feature the service of HBSF Specialist 108U, a polled son of Hank and the reigning 

2008 National Champion Bull. This is complemented by Land O’Lakes Havana 

3U, the outstanding Wyoming Wind son beside last year’s high selling Cigar 

daughter - both services to look forward to.

Welcome to the Land O’Lakes and Guests Production Sale 

Thank you all for your strong support of our program. 

At Land O’ Lakes, we believe we have an excellent offering again this year. It is the result of many years of selective breeding using the best A.I. and natural sires 

available to us. 

We have always focused on performance and continue to do so. In 2007, we produced the top bull over all breeds in the Beef Builder Economic Index. 

Our cow herd is strongly based around cow families – Bobbi, Sara, Juicy, Emerald and others. We have been able to really expand the influence of the maternal lines by 

using embryo transplants to increase the female base and by selecting sons from our top donor cows for natural use. 

This year we chose to use in our breeding program HBSF Specialist 108U and Land O’ Lakes Havana 3U. Specialist is the very popular current National Champion 

Bull. Havana is from the high selling female (Cigar) in last year’s sale and the popular and highly proven, Wyoming Wind. 

We continue to support the Junior programs with the loan of Land O’ Lakes calves and yearlings as 4-H projects. The successes and smiling faces of the young Charolais 

enthusiasts is our reward.

Thanks to the Bateman’s for the opportunity to consign to the 2009 production sale. We are excited to reveal our breeding program to 

you. Our focus continues to be producing bulls that work for the cow/calf producer. We select growthy, easy fl eshing cattle that can cover 

ground. We don’t like cows with attitude or bad udders. 

We are located about 550 kms north of Toronto in an area known as the Little Claybelt. For over 100 years Potters have farmed here. My 

Grandfather arrived from England to homestead in the swamp. My Dad cleared and tile drained the wet soil. Now our heavy clay soils 

provide excellent crop and grazing opportunities. This year we are really proud to have the International Plowing Match and Farm 

Machinery Show hosted by our village of Earlton. If you can make it up for September 22-26, we would love to have you visit. If you

Baker Farms... 

We began our herd in the fall of 2003 with the herd originating from Land O’Lakes Charolaias. Bob, Arlene and Sally took us under their 

wings and showed us the ropes to the Purebred Charolais world. Both of us grew up on dairy farms, so we were no strangers to farming. 

Our two children have both been active participants in 4-H and have both had the opportunity to compete at the Royal Winter Fair. 

In the last two years we have been introducing some different pedigree lines into our herd, hoping to produce top quality Charolais cattle. 

As “first timers”, we are really excited to be part of the Land O’Lakes and Guests Production Sale. We would like to thank Bob, Arlene 

and Sally for inviting us.

TERMS: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at the sale unless satisfactory credit arrangements 

have been made previous to the sale. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. 

All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released. The Auctioneer shall 

have the right to refuse bids from anyone who has a previous record of default in payment or who has not made 

credit clearance prior to the sale with the owner or Sales Manager. All monies are in Canadian funds. Sale is 

not complete until fi nal payment is received. 

Notes... 

DISPUTES: In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, 

the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such 

matters is fi nal. 

PURCHASERS RISK: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for 

at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. 

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Errors discovered in the catalogue will be corrected by announcements from the auction 

stand at sale time and such corrections will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are 

cautioned to pay close attention to announcements. 

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY: Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Charolais Association. A 

certifi cate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer for each animal after settlement has been 

made. 

DELIVERY: Assistance will be given in making shipments after the sale, but no risk is assumed by the Sale 

Management or Seller. Purchasers are requested to furnish shipping arrangements when making settlement. 

Purchasers can purchase insurance sale day. Extra costs such as export fees are to the account of the buyer. 

BREEDER’S GUARANTEE, BULLS: Should any bull (14) fourteen months of age or over, fail to prove a breeder 

after being used on cows known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within (6) six 

months following the date of purchase or (6) six months after the bull has reached (14) fourteen months of age. 

The seller will then have the right and privilege of (6)six months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is 

given that semen collected from the bull will freeze. 

FEMALES: Cows represented as being ”safe in calf” have been examined and declared safe by a licensed veterinarian. 

Pregnancy status is an estimation only, and is not a guarantee of due dates. They are considered breeders 

without further guarantee. Cows with calves at side shall be considered breeders without further guarantee. 

Cows and heifers represented as bred are not “safe in calf” but they and open heifers selling as individual lots are 

guaranteed to be breeders. No guarantees apply to sucking calves. 

In the event a female is claimed to be a non-breeder after having been bred regularly to a bull known to be a 

breeder and after having been treated by a licensed veterinarian, the matter must be reported in writing within (6) 

six months of sale date, to the seller. Heifers under (12) twelve months of age and purchased as single lots and 

who fail to conceive to the service of a bull known to be a breeder, the matter must be reported in writing to the 

seller before the heifer reaches (18) eighteen months of age. The seller shall have (6) six additional months in 

which to prove any such female a breeder and may use any registered Charolais bull available to him. Any female 

returned will be at the purchaser’s risk. No guarantee is given that a pregnant female will deliver live calves or that 

she will carry calves full term nor that the calf carried will not be mummifi ed. 

In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price. 

The seller is not responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold nor for sickness 

not apparent at sale time. 

EXCEPTION GUARANTEE: In case where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproductive 

techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void. 

SETTLEMENT: Transportation charges on animals returned to the seller are for account of the purchaser. No 

incidental expenses such as feed, care, A.I., signing fees, interest, veterinary charges, etc., will be charged by 

either party when making settlement. If the seller is successful in proving the animal in question a breeder, the 

said animal will be reclaimed by the purchaser at his expense. Should the seller fail to so prove the animal a 

breeder, then the buyer is guaranteed a satisfactory replacement F.O.B. ranch or location of origin or a refund 

of the actual price. Should a dispute arise over the quality of a replacement animal, the Sale Management will 

appoint a mediator. 

ACCIDENTS: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the 

sale manager, auctioneer, or sellers assume any responsibility in this matter and disclaim any liability, legal or 

other wise, in the event of accident or loss of property.

seller and is not in any way responsible for any failure on the part of either party to live up to his obligations, or for 

the truth of any warrantees or representations, express or implied. Neither does D Bar L Livestock assume any 

fi nancial obligations to collect or enforce collection of any monies between parties. 

D Bar L Livestock assumes no responsibility for any credit extended by the seller to the buyer. Any legal action 

that may in exceptional cases be taken, must be between the buyer and the seller. The buyer must look to the 

seller for fulfi llment of all guarantees and representations. 

MAIL OR TELEPHONE BIDS: Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone or mail their bids and instructions to 

the sale manager, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in suffi cient time prior to the sale. 

RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS: The above terms and conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between 

the buyer and the seller and be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall 

constitute a separate transaction, which is not covered by the terms and conditions of this sale.
