St Hilda’s offers a wonderful
environment where all four winter
fixture sports are played within the
same campus. Mrs Brookes (Head of
H&PE Department) and Mrs Hodgetts
(Head of Boarding) took advantage of
this opportunity to see all sports in
one morning, and enjoyed watching
Open Team Tennis boarders Doone
Mitchell and Maddison Morgan
playing. While the Tennis players
enjoyed the sunshine at Southport,
they also fought the elements with the
wind often whipping the ball around
the court. Special mention to
Sharleen Mishra and Annie Pullar
(Senior A Team) who came from 0-3
down to eventually win 6-3 in their
doubles match; well done to both
players for their tenacity on court. The Senior B2s played at UQ, St Lucia, while the Senior B3s enjoyed our School
courts and the view from the Pavilion, encouraged by Jemima McGrath (Year 12 boarder) cheering from the
sideline.
This week, the Somerville House Tennis family warmly welcomes Mr Joe Bennett to the coaching staff. Joe will
be coaching the Senior B1 team for the remainder of the season; the team comprising of Cassandra Catsoulis,
Catherine Crombie, Tayla Gill, Chloe Lloyd and Rosemary MacLeod demonstrated their talent against St
Hilda’s with a convincing win. We wish Joe and the Senior B1s well for the weeks ahead.

This week saw another display of our outstanding Volleyball spirit in all year levels. We headed to the Gold Coast
for games against St Hilda’s and we came away with 3 out of 4 wins.
The Year 9s displayed great teamwork but unfortunately they did not come away with a win in this round being
defeated in a close match 2 sets to 1. Stephanie Pace demonstrated great court play throughout the entire game
and must be recognised for her great effort this week.
The Year 10s came away with another win this week, defeating St Hilda’s in a convincing win 2 – 1. Laura
Erikson was a stand out in this weekend’s games, dominating the court with her consistent serving. The Senior As
demonstrated outstanding teamwork once again this week, coming away with a 3 – 0 win, overpowering the
opposition in all aspects of the game. Eilise McAuliffe deserves a special mention as she played consistently
throughout the game. Finally, the Opens had another win this week, coming out on top with 3 – 1. Emily Bowden
played an amazing game, with consistent serving, as well as dominating at the net.
Thank you to all the spectators who made the long trip out to St Hilda’s last Saturday, all the support is greatly
appreciated.
WATER-POLO
The Water-Polo Annual General Meeting will be held on Monday 17 September at 6.30 pm in the PE Classroom at
the Murray Evans Sports and Aquatic Centre. All positions will become vacant. All welcome. Please direct any
