Capital Card Services: Credit Scoring
Capital Card Services has experienced
continuous growth and success since its founding
in 1998 as a provider of card product solutions
and account management services to meet the
needs of credit card issuers in the United States.
Challenge
As a leader in portfolio management and card
outsourcing solutions, Capital Card Services
understood the value of advanced analytics.
When the company sought to expand its portfolio
analysis capabilities, they evaluated 10 vendors
that offered Decision Trees for supervised
classification that could quickly and easily provide
industry-standard comparative model evaluation,
and allow data to be scored both inside and
outside the platform. “Having performed a number
of analysis functions by hand using legacy
statistical tools, we knew very well the specific
areas in the analytics process that we were
hoping to improve,” said Alfred Furth, Portfolio
Analytics Manager.
Solution
The team’s original focus was scorecard model
development and deployment for portfolio
acquisition; however, they uncovered other
benefits from StrategyBUILDER, the predictive
strategy module in KnowledgeSTUDIO. Strategy
Trees, a supervised classification tool based on
Angoss’ intuitive Decision Tree framework, allow
for an unlimited number of key performance
indicators for segments, multiple dependent
variables, and the ability to assign treatments with
a rules-based or optimization approach.
The acquisition and account management models
and strategies that Capital Card Services are
developing using Angoss software are deployed
into a custom decisioning environment using
automatic code generation capabilities in
KnowledgeSTUDIO.
This workflow enables the team to build and
evaluate models using industry standards like
ROC curves and K-S measures, and then deploy
the models into their existing business intelligence
framework to score new portfolio data.
"We are now heavily relying on Angoss’
strategy authoring capabilities, and
particularly enjoying the ease-of-use
and flexibility of Strategy Trees. It has
resulted in a real reduction in strategy
development time.”
Results
Given their heavy resource demands, Capital
Card Services chose a client-server configuration
of KnowledgeSTUDIO that was installed and
configured in less than 1 day for use by the
analytics team. The Angoss software training
experience was very positive and enabled
analysts to quickly embrace both basic and
advanced modeling and strategy building
capabilities.
Now, the company relies heavily on the ease-ofuse
and flexibility of Angoss Decision Trees and
Strategy Trees, and has experienced improved
productivity and a significant reduction in credit
strategy development time.
