<strong>Capital</strong> <strong>Card</strong> <strong>Services</strong> has experienced<br />

Challenge<br />

As a leader in portfolio management and card<br />

outsourcing solutions, <strong>Capital</strong> <strong>Card</strong> <strong>Services</strong><br />

understood the value of advanced analytics.<br />

When the company sought to expand its portfolio<br />

analysis capabilities, they evaluated 10 vendors<br />

that offered Decision Trees for supervised<br />

classification that could quickly and easily provide<br />

industry-standard comparative model evaluation,<br />

and allow data to be scored both inside and<br />

outside the platform. “Having performed a number<br />

of analysis functions by hand using legacy<br />

statistical tools, we knew very well the specific<br />

areas in the analytics process that we were<br />

hoping to improve,” said Alfred Furth, Portfolio<br />

Analytics Manager.<br />

Solution<br />

The team’s original focus was scorecard model<br />

development and deployment for portfolio<br />

acquisition; however, they uncovered other<br />

benefits from StrategyBUILDER, the predictive<br />

strategy module in KnowledgeSTUDIO. Strategy<br />

Trees, a supervised classification tool based on<br />

<strong>Angoss</strong>’ intuitive Decision Tree framework, allow<br />

for an unlimited number of key performance<br />

indicators for segments, multiple dependent<br />

variables, and the ability to assign treatments with<br />

a rules-based or optimization approach.<br />

The acquisition and account management models<br />

and strategies that <strong>Capital</strong> <strong>Card</strong> <strong>Services</strong> are<br />

developing using <strong>Angoss</strong> software are deployed<br />

into a custom decisioning environment using<br />

automatic code generation capabilities in<br />

KnowledgeSTUDIO.<br />

This workflow enables the team to build and<br />

evaluate models using industry standards like<br />

ROC curves and K-S measures, and then deploy<br />

the models into their existing business intelligence<br />

framework to score new portfolio data.<br />

"We are now heavily relying on <strong>Angoss</strong>’<br />

strategy authoring capabilities, and<br />

particularly enjoying the ease-of-use<br />

and flexibility of Strategy Trees. It has<br />

resulted in a real reduction in strategy<br />

development time.”<br />

Results<br />

Given their heavy resource demands, <strong>Capital</strong><br />

<strong>Card</strong> <strong>Services</strong> chose a client-server configuration<br />

of KnowledgeSTUDIO that was installed and<br />

configured in less than 1 day for use by the<br />

analytics team. The <strong>Angoss</strong> software training<br />

experience was very positive and enabled<br />

analysts to quickly embrace both basic and<br />

advanced modeling and strategy building<br />

capabilities.<br />

Now, the company relies heavily on the ease-ofuse<br />

Strategy Trees, and has experienced improved<br />

productivity and a significant reduction in credit<br />

strategy development time.
